coding/scripting sequences noob questions

I'm the leader (at least founder) of a currently unnamed Source engine machinima team. We're going to use conventional acting styles for recording a lot of the time, but we also are going to have to script some sequences.

We have absolutely no experience with this and we don't even know how to start going about it, so does anyone here have links to good tutorials or can give us some general advice/information?
