Hey guys! I recenly bought the HALF LIFE 2 Collectors Edition on an Auction site lite EBAY. BUT the CD KEY was already used for another account.. Sucks..
But can I use the CD KEY from another origninal HL2? And then be able to use all the Collectors Edition games;
CS: Source
HL1 Source
HL2
?

Thanks!

Looks like you got scammed.
Don't buy computer games on Ebay, especially if they're opened. It's neat you have the collector's edition, but no, only a Collector's CDkey will unlock those games. You'll have to buy them all again.

p.s. You're screwed.

You bought a Steam game over eBay, after the Steam site explicitly stated that isn't allowed? :| Don't you people do any research before buying a game? Even if the key was valid, it might have been region locked.

Buy it legitimately from a store or from Steam. The copy you have is worthless. Whoever owns the key owns the game.

You need to contact the seller and tell him you need his Steam Account to play the games.Never use Ebay for Steam products.

Ok. well well.. this wasnt eBay, it was another auction site here in sweden.. and this user had previous comments from other people that had either bought something from him or sold something to him.. And all those comments was good.. So I though it was all ok. I have contacted him and he said a friend had the account etc.. blabla.. But he told me he buy me a new HL2 Game.. So its all good..As I said I live in Sweden, not America where this probably never would have happened :) But all I wanted to ask was if a HL2 CDKEY unlock HL2 CE. Apparentley it dont.. Just had to be sure thats all :)

Thanks for the answers!

(ps, I didnt know it was "illegal" to buy a Steam game (HL2) on an Auction site.. how could I? Why would it be? well..)

It's like paying for pirated movies. Sure, you probably are paying the same price to watch it at the movies; but the money goes to the seller, not the producer.

Eh, what? So you're saying that if I buy a used car thats like buying a stolen one? Hm, yes thats just what you're saying.. Whicked!

Well, this guy was nice,.. He Agreed that he give my money back and that I return the game to him.. I'm lucky there's still good people out there :)

Cheers!

Lucky he was happy to give it back to you. The problem here is that the CD Key is registered and binded to a Steam account. This Steam account is what is worth the money. If he wanted to give you the game he'd need to provide you with the Username and Password. However, all Steam accounts are technically owned by Valve, so it's illegal to sell them too.

The only other option left, is for the original seller to pay the $10 fee to Valve to unbind the CD Key from the account, then he could sell this on ebay or equivalent website, and this cd key would work with any new account. That sounds like a lot of bother doesn't it?

Recommendation - Go to the Steam shop on www.steampowered.com and look at the prices to get the game from Steam then download it from their servers. You'll be extremely surprised how cheap everything is now!

Oh alright.. Now it makes abit more sence (But how could I know..) :)

Well thanks for the reply!
