Colour photos from Wörld War 1

Yea I remember seeing these about a month back on another forum.

Very neat stuff.

Yeah but those weren't coloured originally, they now have a special way of determening what color something was, by the nuances of the shades of gray in black & white photo's.

it would be amazing if it was, jsut think of the influx of ppl getting pictures of their great great great gran and making colour, PS would sell so well :P

It really brings it to life in colour. I remember as a child, i thought the past actually was black and white from footage and it sort of carries on that something that isnt coloured... you cant picture actually happening. Now i can, and its shocking.

haha, some things never change :burp:
Yeah I've always hated looking at black & white old photos. I could never imagine the atmosphere or anything. But with colour they look much more interesting.

i remember seeing a documentary on the history channel which focused on color video images from WWI naval battles. very interesting stuff.

Its not that, its just strange seeing the colour photos of all those men who are no longer alive. Sometimes I just get like that... I start to relate to pictures, and I imagine the people in them going about their lives, and such.

but then again most people who lived during the early 20th century are now gone.

Not my grandad - born in 1910 and still going strong. His older brother by 15 years enlisted and fought on the Western front with Australian forces. My grandad remembers being impressed as a boy seeing him in his uniform. He was wounded a couple of times, but always returned to the front and kept going.

He got knocked out from the concussion of a blast and could not get his gas mask on. He was badly burnt by the gas, scarred so he had no head on his hair anymore. He was evacced and discharged. He had chronic lung problems the rest of his life, and lived in a hospital. He died about 10 years after he got back from lung illness complications.

But his younger brother, my grandad, I think qualifies as being around during the early twentieth century, and is still here.
