I decided to make this thread so that people have a place to post their Combine themed artwork. Looking forwad to seeing other peoples work. :D

My version of a version of the crab synth that was cut from the game. Its still got alot of work before its finished.

Cool, it needs shading.

It looks promising, keep it up! I'd ditch the gradient in the background, though. Smooth digital transitions like that sand out as unnatural alongside textured, organic pencil work.

I shaded and put texture on the synth and now only the background remains and some more detail. :D

Looking good, but that flat scratchy texturing makes the whole thing look very 2D. It should be contouring to the shape of the figure.

^ You want to say put textures only in specific areas?

No, I don't.

Look at the scratchy texture he applied. It's just a single texture overlayed completely flat over everything. Look at the vertical lines. All going straight up. This completely destroys any depth the image could have had. If we were looking at a photo with this creature, and he had this scratchy texture on his armor, it would be contouring around the shapes of his armor.

This is a terrible example, but should get my point across:

These are two spheres with a vertical line texture on them. The one on the left doesn't look like a sphere at all, we can't see any depth, because the texture is just flatly applied over the top of it. The one on the right, we get the sense that it has a 3d shape because of the way the lines are contouring to the shape.

Thanks, trying to improve on it now.

Don't let filters and overlays do the work for you. Determine your light sources, and then actually practice painting the values in with the brush, this way you will actually learn form and structure. Try to think about how the lighting affects the color. Textures can be used in the end to enhance the final piece, but should be used sparingly and deliberately.
