Combine vs Resistance

Well, since apparently Valve hasn't taken it into consideration to make a half decent mp, we as the community should. Since this seems to be the biggest idea of all, why don't some well talented modders from our community make this mod? Combine vs resistance in hl2 based areas. I'll leave all of you to the imagination. I got Source World off to its start, so I don't see why we can't get this idea off the ground and put to work. What do you guys think? :cheers:

Yea, I thought this was a great idea when I first heard of it.
 
good idea, but im no modder (dont quote saying "i didnt ask" or something like that)
 
Not my idea guys. Just figure that with all the talk about it, and how really sweet it can be if it takes off, someone should lift the idea off the ground and get it moving. I think it would be insanely fun. Especially with objectives, squad based combat, strengths and weaknesses for both sides. Different classes and ohh the possibilities.
 
Combine vs. Resistance DoD-style fighting in City 17 maps would be pimp.
 
i'd be willing to put money on it that valve has something like this cooking up. like, a multiplayer expansion pack that they'd release next year or something.
 
If someone did make a mod like this it would need vehicles for the combine like striders or combine gunships. If they are vehicles and not some type of organic thingi....

Combine have APC's and the resistance have those rubbish buggies.
No reason not to have the Chopper in though, like ONS I guess.
 
The problem is the implementation- this community alone has enough imagintion to create something about 37 times better than the average mainstream developer.

It's just that coders and moddellers would be required- I'd love to help, as I can map and model to a limited degree, but at the moment this feels like the classic "omg i r teh designer for supermod thatll hav all this *insert 40 page, massively impressive features list*, but first i need coders mappers voice artists texture artists and a community!"!11"

But hell, I'd happily volunteer as a playtester or as a design executive ;)
 
well thats what im trying to do. actually make the "supermod with 40 pages of massively impressive features" come to life. we really have the potential to do it. so why the hell not?:)
 
Fair enough- let's get people replying and actually listing their abilities then, not just "great idea!" which we'll get enough of when we're done :D

So- in me, the mod has an amateur jack of all trades whose only real skill is coming up with impressive ideas. Hmm.

why would you need to create new models? all the models and resources you would need for this concept are in HL2

the entire concept can be built around taking back city 17 one area at a time. Done right this mod could keep me far more interested in HL2mp than CS:S
 
one of the mods suggested this when it was realised there was no themed hl2dm, but the idea never really caught on.

Lets hope it does this time, I would gladly model small parts such as scenery and prefabs, however you could probably just modify maps from hl2.

A genius man right here. Precisely, we would not need to create new models or new characters. Just maps, write code to fit the whole objective based taking back city 17 theme, and whatever else we might wanna add in. (maybe some special powers, new weapons, whatever)
 
kinda like iraquies have if uve ever played delta force, have like old raggedy pick ups with machine guns mounted on back or like the gause rifle mounted on it, and an old rapist van that u can shoot out the side for the resistance

Coding objectives and tweaking gameplay would probably be the hardest parts. The rest of the mod pretty much writes itself.

Classes would be awesome: you could have combine assasins (think TFC spy or sniper) heavy weaponery class (how hard would it be to make a strider a drivable vehicle class? ...maybe limited to 2 per round) grunt (regular masked soldier) combat engineer (other type of combine soldier) etc

the resistance is easy: there's already a medic, maybe a playable Dog (dont know if you can control it in sp) as a heavy weapons class, uniformed resistance could be ammo class, maybe a variant for spy/sniper class etc

Uh, you do realise that you will need to do some modelling, even if only via animation tweaking? You can't just pick up a resistance model and turn it into a player model by changing a value in a .txt... you do know that, right...? :eek:

But yes, any coding will be the hard part. Unsurprisingly.
