Well since HL2 won't be out atleast until april, I think it would be cool to start a community addon for HL1. It could have a strong storyline, be about the same length as Bshift and maybe have a few voice acting sequences, partially recycled from the original. So bascically all we need is about 3-4 mappers, a voice actor or two and thats about it. Would like to include a few new models, but it isn't imperative to have this.

My idea for an addon would be where the main character directly works for the Administrator during the experiments with the survey team on Xen or something. I think this would make for an interesting view point to the events that occur later on in HL. The plot will have to be worked on a bit. What does everyone else think?. And are any mappers, voice actors interested?.
 
Nice idea, but we'd probably need more than 4 months.
 
do you have any kind of battle plan? if you've already got a design ready then get posting in the editing forums. basically you've summarised your concept in one sentence which is a good start. all that's needed now is a nice document that you can send to your potential collaborators, outlining the story, characters, and overall outcome. i can help out with some of the documentation but apart from that just try in the editiing forums.
 
hmm.. a HL2.net mod?

oh yah.. i can see it now.. Chris_D casted as the hero.. going up against GW's evil empire.. with characters like Majestic, mrBadger and D33 helping our hero along the way!! :E

you would probably want to use these four months to develop concept/storyline/etc, and have it all planned out ahead of time, so when you are ready to start actually making it, you could just bang it out.

btw, it wouldnt be too early to start anyway, unless you wanted it to be a followup to the hl2 storyline. the sdk is coming out soon to make levels, so that wouldnt even be a problem.

doesnt sound like a bad idea to me, id probably help out if we did do something like that.
 
heh heh this would be cool. But ya the whole project needs to be planned out and then given a leader. Then when you add that to actual development time you probably won't be able to finish it before HL2 is released.

Still, its a good idea. I mean you could port over alot of what may have been done as a HL1 mod into HL2 once its released.
 
I have done a little mapping before. But there is alot I still don't understand. But I have done a few and I think I can learn fast enough. I have made a CS map before with a sort of rappel system in it which was cool. But I kinda lost it in a hard drive format. Thats when I stopped mapping, it kinda put me off....

Basically I am trying to say I will join this. :)


I can also model A tincy little bit.. And I have a nice PC for doing testing :p

Wow tanks marksman!. Would it be okay if I sent ya some concepts and stuff?. I already have a few ideas for some levels in the works. Some new models would be cool too, if its not too much trouble.

Naft: I sorta didn't understand what you said, but since the addon is going to take place in the events prior to HL1, I don't think I need to wait until HL2 comes out, maybe thats what you meant I dunno....

Mull: Ya I already thought about that, porting over what has been done in the mod to HL2 if its not finished. It all depends I guess.
 
i was merely stating that unless you wanted to have the addon follow-up the hl2 storyline, there would be no reason not to make it for hl2. you wouldnt have to wait even a month probably to start mapping, so making it for hl1 would just be a waste.
so basically: make it for hl2, you wont have to wait.

if needed im sure i could model some stuff, i havent made actual game models before but im good at making models themselves(like with bryce, etc). no skinning though.
 
Plan now. Make for Half-Life 2 later. When SDK released. Yrrr.
