Anyone been able to get it from the shops yet? Its availabe and in stock all over the net, just wondered if its available off the shelves as the release date is 'apparently' the 29th...but its the 28th and the net have it online?

Just dont want to waste fuel driving into town and being told its not available until tomorrow.

CHEYARS!

Yes! (of course, I am in the US so it has been out for a few weeks :P).

Seriously though, it is amazingly fun, but fairly difficult! I am supposed to be defending this town square and church in this one mission and I just can't seem to hold it together! But it looks and runs really really well on my pc @ 1280x1024 (3.6ghz p4, 1gb ram, ati x850xt pe). Enjoy!!

I havn't seen it in shops yet, but I really havn't been looking. I downloaded it to test it out, but so far, it doesn't seem like it's worth it to me. The missions are hella boring, but I'm going to play skirmish, and if I have LOTS of fun, like I did with AOE3, I'll buy it, LIKE I did with AOE3.

The European release is tomorrow, september the 29th. I can't wait to get my hands on this game. I am still playing the mp beta, even though the number of people online has plumited since the American release. The multiplayer of this game is so much fun.

I couldn't wait so I already have it, it's just too much fun. Getting your first tank is extremely satisfying.

Yeah I have had this game preordered for a month on amazon so Ill hopefully get it this saturday if im lucky if not next monday definately. But I played the demo and I loved everything about, definately my type of RTS. Runs at poor FPS but that shall be resolved soon with my new 2.2Ghz processor. MUST BUY!

Yeah, i have it warezed and im going to buy it if i have the money tomorrow. Else i'll get it next week. It's awesome, and yeah, really hard if you're going for the badges, particulary that town centre mission VoS said.

I think you mean the Carentan counter-attack mission on the demo? Yeah I found it very hard too, but still got it on the second try, basically i created four areas of defence, one across the bridges at the strategic points, then i fell back behind the bridges, then a fell back to the town center and then finally fell back to the last hq building, I mean the action was just surperb, tanks blowing up everywhere, infantry getting gunned, artillery blowing all over the bloody show, and when it looks like you just cant hold on any longer, the rienforcements arrive. Never had that much fun on an rts before.

Just played a skirmish on the demo...bugger me i got slaughtered on normal!

Build build build (like in C&C or DoW etc) to try and GET some tanks and they were already arty striking me, sniping my engineers, cutting off my supply routes, mg-ing my reinforcements and sending in loads of some kind of really small tank that drives really REALLY fast, and then blows up inside your defences!?!?!

Still, DoW was amazing, and this is just..well..better.
Getting it tomorrow. Just found it weird how some places today say, already, that theyre out of stock even though the release date is tomorrow..:S. I know pre-orders are the way to go, but play.com and amazon.co.uk say they have it in stock already...

Anyway who cares, BUY IT!

The AI loves Goliaths as those little buggers are called. They are fairly easy to neutralise with rifle fire but you have to be quick. You can make 'em in Axis bunkers. They are also the only Axis unit that can blow up bridges. They're expensive though: 125 ammo points.

This is one of those, "Too complicated for me to enjoy" games.

I'm an idiot, I'm sorry.

Loving this game at the moment. Really is a lot of fun.

Artillery looks just awesome.

I'm quite excited about Company of Heroes. Edge gave it a 9/10, which doesn't happen often.

Ha! Thats the one! Man, it is hard. I have only given it 3 tries myself. Must buckle down tonight! :D

edit: Ok, got it. Man, it was close though! Can't wait to see what other missions they have in store!!

Yeah, I played skirmish, and I just can't get into a game when I have to think too much. I won my first battle at least.

I didnt mean the counterattack one, but its similar. :)

the enemy AI is allot more aggressive and harder than standard RTS's, allot of even single player replayability imo.

Only thing I hate by the AI is their engineer spam. It's simply frustrating to play against the CPU because you're constantly retaking remote resource points that a lone engineer captured. Stupid cat and mouse game. And OP's don't really help either, flamethrowers cut right through them.

Got it this morning, now going on an uninstall rampage to clear up the HDD :D

Oh, got a free copy of Warhammer 40K Dawn of War with it, seeing as i already have a copy, anyone interested in purchasing it PM me :)

I beat the single player missions in the demo. The reinforcements arrived to my aid just in time when the enemy were firing on the Church. Still haven't beaten the CPU in the Skirmish though. I tried building defenses near every resource points, sure it slows the enemy down but are not match for enemy tanks. They're too quick. Hitting me with all they've got while I haven't even begun producing my own tanks yet. Damn, I suck at this. :/

Would be for me too, but I had an unexpected shortage of the financial kind. No matter.

I paid it a month ago D:

Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow, because if it doesn't arrive tomorrow, it'll be tuesday... (stupid mail doesn't get delivered on mondays)

Yeah the OPs will be easily destroyed. Their primary role is to increase the resources you get from them, but they are actually quite useful, as they stop infantry units from just straight away capturing the point, its gives you time to react to their attack. If you play relic's Dawn of War games, they are both played on the same engine and both play with the same sort of principle theme.

I have just received it this morning also through the post, played the first two missions including the d-day one and they have both been utterly awsome, the onyl thing that is annoying me is that I have to play with everything set to low until I get a new 2.2Ghz processor early next week, but ill cope xD

Out here since yesterday. Been playing the demo for the last few days, and tossing up whether or not I wanted to get it. On the one hand, it's extremely fun, but I'm sort of like Pitz in that I normally can't get into RTSs because of all the micromanagement and stuff, and CoH definitely has it's fair share. Also, the AI is frickin tough, I only just managed to beat an easy AI before... but man was it satisfying. Infact the match was so intense and fun all the way through, it pretty much sold me, so I'm gonna see if I can pick myself up a copy today :P

As for the game, there's one thing I kind of have issue with, but it's something I'll have to adjust to. Usually I'm a heavily defensive player in these sort of games, but CoH seems to be all about keeping you on your toes, and even a well-layed defensive can crumble under an equally vicious offensive (or in the AI's case, many many less vicious ones in succesion).

But the one thing that always catches me off-guard - TANKS. Gah, how I've grown to hate them. And since I'm sticking to allies at the moment, I always seem to get pummeled even if I retalliate with my own tanks, because the axis' seem to totally out-do them. Which has me wondering why the first tank you can build is called a "tank buster" when all it's doing is getting busted :(

And of course, the AT guns are bloody difficult to position, let alone re-position, but I can see they've done this on purpose so it doesn't bother me greatly. What did bother me is when I invested in some Rangers - "heavy anti-tank infantry", whose rocket shells seem to have little effect even when hitting the rear armour?? :|

Oh well, guess I'll just have to rely on the strength of my infantry and try to cut off their fuel supplies next time ^_^

Edit - Also running it on pretty low settings, but it still looks spec-f*cking-tacular and never gets bogged down :D <3

Yeah, playing the game properly, isnt about overpowering them.. its about taking out their supply lines and stopping them rebuilding. I've only just realised that.

If you are a verteran of the Dawn of War games online like I am xD, then its fairly easy to play, to be honest, I found the easy difficulty of the AI laughable, and the moderate just right, hard was hard to play against, the AI is extremely agressive. Basically with this sort of game, sitting back and playing defensively means disaster, you need to get foward as soon as spossible and take as much ground as soon as possible, fortify the strategic points asap and move all forces up to defend it, if you can keep and hold the resources and stop the other dudes from getting them then your at the resource advantage, then from then you can start doing what you want. But really the key to doing well in Company of Heroes is gaining the initative and advantage asap. Plus, I find at first, its better to say have three squads of paratroopers against one tank, throwing three satchel charges at it pretty much puts it out of action, I only use tanks when I can afford to get 3 or 4 on the field at once and have the supported by infantry.

The M10 and the Rangers are all about maneuverability. An M10 can crush a Stug or something heavier because a Stug can't hit the M10. But that requires you micromanaging the M10 to move around the Stug.

Same for Rangers, they'll get pounded unless you use the spring special (forgot what its called) that doesn't cost any resources.

And AT guns are wonderful, I think they're overpowered actually, they got the armor of a tank and twice the firepower. But they're quite vulnerable to infantry and flanking as well as grenades. That's why a tank is always supported by infantry.

And Allies as a faction requires a totally different playstyle than zeh Germans. Allies have to be aggressive and never let the Axis get the upper hand because they are simply outgunned in the late game. But if Allies can prevent the Axis from getting Fuel points, the odds shift to the Allies. Playing Allies is about numbers and initiative.

Just did the first few missions, this game freaking rocks.

Yeah it does. I can't get over how good it looks from every single angle! Plus it plays like a dream, so really its one of the absolute best RTSs I've ever played and--dare I say it--one of the best WWII games I have ever played!

Just got it, installed, updated and... stalling on the boards? Bah! Into the fray :P

I don't like micromanaging tanks... :(

Fire up! :D

Airborne have that too, aswell as satchel charges as someone else mentioned. Also their recoilless rifles seem to be far more effective than the rangers' rockets. I can take out a Stug with a couple of squads as long as I stick on it's back. Infact, I think I'm digging the Airborne tree as a whole, feels like I'm playing Band of Brothers :P

Yeah, they totally pwn armor once you kick in their piercing shells, even from infront. I've found they're rather impervious to my grenades though... atleast in the demo =/

Also, WTF the axis ATs can stealth? BS.

Just from browsing over the booklet before, I think Axis are possibly in need of a nerf. They seem to have allies covered on all fronts. Better armor, AND better anti-armor? (ie - panzershreck = pwned). And infantry options out the wazoo... =/

Anyway, must play, ta!

The only thing I don't like is tanks. I just dislike them in CoH. They're hella overpowered, glitchy, and have terrible pathfinding & control. I'm probably going to look into modding tanks out for skirmishes and such.

Best moment so far for me... I accidently flew a bombing run over flak to destroy their HQ, it got shot down, right into their HQ for half it's HP :D. The entire bottom floor on one side was just gone when that plane slammed into it...

Favorite mission so far is probably that Cherbourg urban map (mish 5 I think)

Most awesome unit is a tie for me between Calliope Shermans, and the devastation of strafe/bombing runs. Screw rangers, I'd take being able to annihilate any area on the map, twice, for a little munitions.

Too bad there is no German campaign, I prefer their playstyle... Defense followed by an absolute massacre with top tanks, footies, abilities at the end. Oh well, atleast you can jack the pwnage machine, Flak88s. Fell in love with those on the very first mission. I'd rather lose a few squads unneccesarily than risking destroying one while capturing it.

ATs aren't all that vulnerable to grenades... Best way is to just pump them full of lead on a flank.
