Model PP156AA-ABA SR1315CL NA510

Okay... I'm trying to figure out what motherboard this computer has so I can determine what kind of upgrades my cousin's computer can have as far as graphics cards and CPU etc.

I loathe premade computers like this, with a passion. The Radeon 9800 Pro we got them last Christmas broke down this year a month or so ago, so I gotta figure out what would be some decent, relatively cheap graphics card choices I can make for them to buy a new one, since they are unable to play some of the games they own due to only having the lame onboard graphics card currently.

Can anybody with research skills find out for me what motherboard this model has?

It's the PResario SR1315CL Everything i've looked for I can't find it. Only information about what sorts of Ram upgrades can be had. GRRRR.

No need. You know what VGA slot his mobo has, so that's covered. Then download CPU-Z to find out what his current processor is. It'll list the socket type, speed, etc.

CPU-Z

Although bios versions and boards specs may only support certain CPUs even same socket. Happens with Socket A, 478 and 775.

edit:Would have to be ebay or something since these CPUs are no longer made. The 3700+ is the highest S754 model.
This HP uses the same board and suggests it could go up to a A64 3700+ (2.4Ghz) assuming the bios supports it.

Well, I wanted to know in particular what AGP speed his VGA slot went into.

Thanks for the info Asus. I'll check it more in depth in the morning, when I have a good night's sleep. I'm tired!

Nevermind, seems I don't know what I'm talking about.

Eh you were on the right track there Travis, it's just we're all inferior to Asus :(

inferior nonsense. I just find info. If I just paraphrase what I find then I might quote the wrong stuff for what he is looking for. Links are best. :)

More specific info on the board.
8X agp
But if you had a 9800pro in there before then you should know that.

Yeah, I knew it could support at least 4x agp, but I wasn't sure if it could go up to 8. I knew that the 8xagp cards can scale down to lower agp settings though.

Guess I'm going to have to do some research on good video cards that they can buy for their computer. Of course it'll have to be cheaper and not like the one I just bought, a radeon x1950 which is pretty much the best I can get for the aging AGP types.

Another thing is possibly a better cpu. I really hate that I don't know what the hell the speeds are for AMD cards anymore, and they have an AMD Sempron 3100+ 1.8ghz on their computer. I don't know if that's actually 1.8ghz in comparison to intel processors or what... so I'll have to do some research and see if I can get their computer operating on a level more similar to mine right now without a whole lot of money.

It seems that the components listed for that motherboard you linked me don't really match up to what they actually have in their system. Very bizarre. Then again, maybe it does and I'm just not reading it properly.

Which components? Maybe I searched for the wrong PC model.

Core 2 Duos sorta mess up the somewhat easy comparison between Intel GHz and AMD ratings.
It used to be really easy without looking at benchmarks. P4 3.2GHz ~= A64 3200+ (~2GHz)
Can sorta see were those compare to Core 2's here.

I'm no longer over there, so I can't actually look. But still this all gives me a good indicator. Unfortunately for memory if they do indeed have that motherboard listed, I won't be able to upgrade their RAM since they already have 2 pc3200 DDR SDRAM 512mb sticks in it... ideally I'd of liked to be able to keep that as an option for them to bump it up to 2 gigs.

So if as you say, the AMD sempron 3100 at 1.8ghz is equivalent to an intel 3.2ghz processor, that's great! Mine is only 2.8ghz intel pentium 4 and I'm still happy with it after being 4 years old.

Looks like it'll just be graphics card then.

If it is similar to the board I linked to then they would have to just flat out replace the ram. 2x 1GB sticks.

Yeah. And that's not entirely an ideal situation. Oh well. I'll look at it next time I'm actually over there to see how many slots it actually has. I want to say it had 4, but I can't remember. Right now I can only go off the computer name and model...

Does your cousin's Presario spec similar to the one In This Link?
If it is; everything you need should be in the MB spec page.

MB K8S-LA Salmon (Micro ATX).
Socket 754. Max supported CPU, 3700+
MAX DDR supported, PC3200 (2GB)
VGA Type, AGP 8x.

I think that's basically it.

Good Luck.
