I'm not sure if you need your computer to be compatable with a grapics card, but I think I've heard somewhere that you have.

So, if I get a 9800xt, will that be compatable with my specs:

1.6 GHz Proccessor
512MB RAM
[not sure what my sound card is]
Windows XP

Thanks ;)

I think your talking about PCI/AGP/PCI-Express slots, so what kind of motherboard do you have?

As long as you have an AGP 4x or AGP 8x slot then you will be fine..

and a sufficient power supply. Btw blahblahblah, if you read this, i got my 9600XT and installed it last week, running a treat, much nicer, now and again i get a choke of 9! but yeah my power supply is running it nicely, i think its 250 watt or so. CatBone, whats your power supply?

try and get another 512 RAM, or atleast 256 if thats all you can afford. it will help with loading times in game aswell as helping the card to process quicker, so graphics will be smoother.

tbh tho, your cpu could do with an upgrade, but its not that important unless you notice huge slow downs.

also, dont bother if your mobo only supports agp4x (look on the box and not in bios. bios may show only 4x but will change to 8x when the card is installed if it actually has agp8x onboard), as you may aswell have a slower card. 4x slows your card down loads as the card doesnt get the power to run properly.

300w power supply should be fine, but try to go higher if you can afford it, just in case...

How do I do that?

Can I not just plug my comp into the mains? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I don't know much about the technical side of computers...
