I recently bought a new comp, just to give you some context its a 3.2ghz P4, 1024 Corsair ram, X800Pro, Audigy 2ZS or whatever sound card. I havent had any problems with it aside from my speakers. I bought some relatively cheap but reputable Logitech 640 speakers, and have had varying degrees of sucess with them.

I have a Far Cry and Painkiller demo, and the audio problems I have with them are dumbfounding.

With the Far Cry demo, I'll play it and it'll be perfectly normal, then exit, change no setting at all on my comp or speakers, enter the game again, and loose certain sounds completely. Ie, I can hear my gun and other noises, but noises with depth are completely muted, ie, enemies talking, firing guns, etc, the sound of helicopters, all muted. I exit, go back into the game, and everythings back to normal. Its boggling my mind.

With the Painkiller demo, it worked beautifully up untill recently, having changed nothing, the sound is now really really distorted. Ie, it sounds like the bass is up to high and the speakers crackle and pop, I turned the base down completely, and it still is all distored, this is constantly happening now, where as before the game worked fine.

I recently downloaded some driver updates, which may explain the problems (rolling back the drivers as I post this), but im wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems with these speakers, particularily in conjunction with the Creative Audigy 2 sound card.

Im certainly in a bind. Does anyone have any recommendations for speakers that would work well with the sound card I have, because there is very few in depth reviews and comparisons of speaker systems on the net.

Edit: It wasn't the drivers, even with the old drivers I still have the same problem.
