In my previous post, i said im getting new parts.

I did, and im having problems. I connected everything as it goes, i have checked compatibility.

when i boot, the computer gets stuck on bootup, and wont continue, i checked everything that i could think of.

I have tried all combinations of boot priorities in attempt to either boot from hard disk or to boot from cd rom with a windows disk. All attempts have failed.

Few notes:
computer is going extremely slow, bios says cpu speed of 200 mhz.

Keyboard often freezes when turned on too long, it remains lit, but not functioning.

It recognizes my hard drive as a ide hd 0

No matter which priority i start from, it gives me a "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"at this point, keyboard stops working, but is still lit up.

DID I MENTION EXTREMELY SLOW?

where does it get stuck exactly?

It gets stuck after reviewing over all the system checks.

ALSO I discovered that when i disconnect one of the IDE connectors from either my HD or my cd rom, the pc speeds up, booting sequence only takes seconds, but when im going just with the cd rom, obviously, i cant do much, when i go with the HD, i get as far as the screen selection of either safe mode, or start windows normally, but i cannot move up and down with the keyboard, it simply stops responding at all when it gets there. When it boots normally with the HD, it gets to the windows loading screen, then restarts.

Checked temp, its low

Checked power usage, attempted to take power strain off by removing all but 1 stick of ram, removing video card (using onboard), and i also removed extra fans, and have attempted to remove extra electrical appliances from the plug, but i have come to the conclusion that it is not the power supply if it still restarts even after i remove all these extra power suckers. I have absolutely no idea what to do

Update your BIOS.
Visit Gigabyte support forum check for similar symptoms.
(If you can get into BIOS) Check BIOS settings, CPU frequency/voltage settings, RAM frequency/voltage settings, Reset Cmos, Check PCIe settings.

Note: If you changed MB, you must reinstall OS. Also, if you using the PCIe as primary display port you must disable on-board VGA (Vice versa).

Good Luck.

It might be slow because it is trying to look at the HDD. Did you reinstall Windows or is this the same install? If it is the same install, did you remove drivers that it used for the previous chipset etc?

Do you have the correct drive set as the boot drive? Also do you have the jumper settings correct if it is an IDE drive? Ignore if it is SATA.

FYI 200MHz is what most CPUs run at as their main clock speed. They use a multiplier to get the 2.2GHz speed or whatever. Example, 200MHz x 10 multiplier = 2.0 GHz (2000MHz).

I tried updating bios, first time it worked, but the updated bios did nothing. Second time, it cant read anything on the floppy, no matter how many times i put the new bios file in it, it simply says 0 file found.

Tried gigabyte support, their support blows, 50% of their faq says update bios.

Checked bio settings, seems fine, tried to reset cmos, but couldnt get the damn battery out.

Im temporarily not using the PCIe, im using onboard.

I cant reinstall OS if i cant use my cd drive and HD at the same time.

All your solutions either I have tried, or doesnt work.

I said i cant reinstall because i cannot boot from CD, HD, or anything at all while my HD and cd rom is both plugged.

I did not reinstall, but I had no previous motherboard drivers, because the company no longer supported the old piece of shit, and i formated long time ago, so that driver was long gone. I have tried all sorts of combo of boot sequence, none worked.

How do i correct my jumper settings? thats the one and only thing i have yet to try out of all the suggestions in this thread, and anything i could think of.

Is it an IDE drive? Are the CD and HDD sharing cables or using their own?

Asus, i changed the jumper, and now it runs successfully with both devices plugged in to the same cable.

New problem, Im trying to boot from CD Rom, so i can format and reinstall windows, but like i stated above, when i enter certain areas, my keyboard stops responding, so it says "press any key to boot from cd" when i dont press, because i cant, it just boots normally.

I switched keyboards and now im formatting.

Sorry for double post, but I am so relieved.

ALL of my problems consisted of Keyboard, and jumper settings it turns out.

What i dont understand is why my keyboard wont work under some settings while booting, and why my old jumper settings conflicted now, instead of before.

Not sure why, Im not familiar of your old setup. But it's done now. Glad it works.
As for the keyboard, sometimes mine doesn't respond at those critical parts such as going into safe mode etc. It's a USB keyboard and I usually get an old PS2 keyboard out if I am going to be going in and out of safe mode or bios a lot simply because it works.

Heh thanks Asus. If you didnt mention jumper, I dont think i would of figured this out for a VERY long time, or NEVER!

<3 much love for the help
