I left my computer at my cousins house, only to get a phone call today about it not start up.

All the fans start, the HDD sounds like it's doing something. This case doesn't have a speaker so it's hard to know. The problem is, nothing shows up on the screen. Not even the BIOS shows up. I've tried a different monitor with no luck. I've reset the CMOS

My specs:
XTX 7800GTX 256meg
Antec 550 Watt TruePower 2 SLI certified
1.5gjgs of memory
A8N-SLI Mobo.

Even with everything disconnected but all the proper power plugs, required fans, the graphics card and its plug...nothing. I've looked over the graphics card and found no bad spots. It wasn't lightning out last night... so I'm really unsure.

something very similar happened to me not all that long ago.

It was either the motherboard or the video card. I swapped the video card into another friends computer and it worked fine. Replaced my motherboard and everything worked fine.

Never did find out what went bad with it though.

that happens to me every now and then. i usually just unplug the computer and drain the caps by hitting the on button a few times. i think it happens when you don't shutdown your machine properly.

Yeah I do that as well sometimes.

Have you tried a different monitor and all outputs (vga/dvi)?

It has two DVI outputs, neither work. A different monitor didn't change anything.

Sounds like you plugged the monitor into the built in video support on the motherboard instead of into the video card.

The motherboard does not have an on-board graphics card. It's an A8N-SLI, no onboard graphics.

like I said, his problem sounds very similar to mine. I tried a plethora of things, but only replacing the motherboard fixed it.

OMFG!!!

I hate this shit!!! Wow!

You wanna know what it was? WANNA?

THE DVI - VGA ADAPTER. Right when I was about to switch the computer, I seen the DVI-AVI adapater in my bag and decided to switch them just to see if it would work. WAnna know what? IT WORKS! OMFG, that pisses me off!

Grats!

So it was a faulty DVI - VGA adapter? or just wasn't connected fully/properly?

One of the prongs on the DVI part was bent really far. I guess I didn't notice it because it somehow managed to fit in perfectly to my graphics card.
