Computer cooling idea.

I'm considering changing my fans around and improve the cooling performance of my PC. Wanted to get opinions.

Basically I'd reverse some of the fans and cut a hole over the CPU so air would be pulled over it.

What do you all think?

I can't quite make out where your fans are from those pictures. Doesn't really say where abouts on the case the fans reside. But generally you want to be pulling cool air in from the front of the case, and have the rear fans act as an exhaust and push the warm air out. Are you going to be putting a fan in the hole you cut for the CPU? What kind of case is it? pictures, even off google or a manufacturers website would be helpful so that it can be visualized easier by other people trying to give you advise.

What kind of temperature do you currently see from your CPU, and how much do you hope to improve it by?

Since heat rises, you ideally want all your exhaust fans higher up (usually at the rear or a 'blow hole' on the top), and all of your intake fans lower down (usually at the front bottom). Fans on the side of the case generally work better as exhausts also, for taking heat away from GPU's and CPU's.

its all about air flow. and for that the best way is a strait uninterupted flow. best is intake in the front and out in the back.you also want more air leaving than coming in because it creates a low presure system in your case helping heat disipate easly. wouldnt sudjest having any fans on the top or side of the case as it can easly deter the air flow restricting air both ways.

best way to see how well it works is to blow some smoke into the case while the fans are running and see how well it disapates and see if there are any pockets where air is stale

You should also think about wiring. Having a cleanly wired system can make a huge difference to the temperature of your case. Might be worth investing in a few cable ties/something nicer to look at that also does the job, and sort out what cables from your PSU you need and hide away all the ones you don't. With the improved air flow you'll see a significant difference straight away.

Reverse the bottom right fan in the second picture. You want the top PSU fans blowing out since heat rises and the lower fan on the left blowing out since that will help cool the vid card better since its fan blows downwards. Also a fan in front of the cpu helps a lot.

That's a myth AFAIK. Taking the side off creates a single large dead space of air over all the components.

I've had it for a year.
My CPU temp is 45-50 C.
I've decided to try to get it cooler because:
A. I've never been able to overclock the sucker (AMD 2800+)
B. My friend has a faster processor than mine but it's 10-15 degrees cooler. His case has a bunch of fans located over the graphics card and CPU.

The problem with that is if I have that one fan blowing air in, then it will just get sucked right back out by the side fans.
Right now with the side fans blowing in, no air is getting from the bottom of the case to the top. Which is probably why my CPU is warm.

Just make sure that you've got an air flow through the case in its entirity and if it's got enough room to breathe it should be okay.

Hey, is it just me or do the fans on the side of the case appear lighter than the one one the front? Optical illusions FTW!
