first off, im sorry if someone else has posted this before, but after serching on a handful of different forums i haven't seen anyone with the same exact problem as i.
When ever i start up half life 2 it loads through steam, then the valve screen shows then i get the blurry picture of city 17. The main menu loads up and i hear the sound of the combin guy walking around for about 2 seconds and then my computer restarts. Thats as far as i can get.
The first time i played it didnt' do this, I was able to change the video settings a bit, but as soon as i hit apply i saw the "blue screen of death" flash for a second and then the comp restarted. I haven't been about to get past the menu since.
I reinstalled the game 2 times to try and reset the defaults, but that hasn't done anything to help. I updated all my drivers, and every thing should be in order. I even defragged and did an error check and spyware/error check. i have no clue whats wrong.
I can play other games fine such as BF2 and have no troubles.

MSI K8mm-v onboard sound
win XP sp2
Direct x 9c
nothing is overclocked except the video card which is factory oc'ed but i've played the game with the card before.
