Right now I'm running an older alienware. It was made in 2002 if I remember correctly.

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 4 Ti 4600

I'm going to upgrade my video card last. I was planning on buying 2GB of ram through Newegg.com. I was wonder, will 2GB of ram require me to buy a new CPU instantly? I'm on sort of a budget. What kind of CPU can I get that is fairly cheap? What ram will work with my system? What CPU can I buy, what can't I buy. Thank you

i dont recommend buying 2gb of ram with that current set up. i recommend buying a new cpu,new video card, and depending on the ram you have buy anothor stick of 512mb. if the 512 stick is pc2100 speed just get a pc3200 gig stick.also it would make it easier if you gave the exact budget you had

Well i'm doing this for video editing. I need my computer to quit bogging while i'm editing.

I don't want to spend more than $100 on ram. I'm seeing 1GB for around $75.
I also don't want to spend more than $100 on a CPU if possible. I don't know how much that stuff costs. I could just buy another stick of 512, and keep the 512 I have in now.

Well, afaik you cannot get hold of socket 478 pentium 4's anymore, so your best bet would be to maybe try and get hold of a 3.0-3.2 P4 from e-bay, i'm sure there will be a few floating about. And then maybe a gb of ram. Those would be my recommendations anyways.
