Computer Lockup/Sound Repeat !

Hello,

I have been having problems with not only Half-Life 2 but other 3D games as well, q3,counter-strike, ut, ut2k3, bf1942, just any 3D game. What it dose is it Locks up then plays the sound it locked up on its like this da da da da da da da de de de de de de de then all the textures on that map goes away and maybe 5 seconds later it comes back to normal game play then when I go to shoot a weapon or move around it dose it again now I never had this problem before every game I listed above played very well even on ut2k3 I had all the settings as high as they could go no hick ups at all now all of a sudden it doing it. I have already Updated every driver for my computer "motherboard,Graphic Drivers" and every other driver I also have Win XP sp2 installed. Before I call gateways crappy tech support I wanted to get some help from a forum because I love everyone on hl2.net but anyways here is my specs to my computer..

Win Xp home "SP2"
Geforce 4 Ti 4600
Pentium 4 2.60 ghz
512mb ram
Cable Modem
80gb Hard drive

for starters mate get rid of sp2 i hear no end of bad things about that and games.
have you tried turning the vpu recovery off if your card has this option(im not sure as i am not an nvidia owner)
secondly go to start->run->dxdiag go to the sound tab in the menu that comes up and set the sound acceleration down a notch or 2 to see if that helps if not turn the fastwrites off and drop ya agp bus to x4 and let us know how that goes

do u have a via mainboard and a creative sound card? search for squeal of death. i was getting this and just took out the pos creative card. works now.

Hey guys thanks for the help but I found the problem, my video card Fan went out causeing my video card to heat up and it would cause extreme slow downs ! But I called Gateway and there sending me a new replacement. Thanks agin
