I own a Microsoft Optical 5-button mouse (wired) and it seems to cut in and out of power every now and then, but when I play WoW it seems to just shut off for no reason and I have to restart to get it to work again, I've had the mouse for about a year and it just started giving me trouble today and I've already tested other mice in the USB ports and they worked fine. Should I buy a new mouse?

Sounds like a faulty connection most likely.
Open it up, see if you can find any loose or burnt looking areas and fix them if you can, if not get a new mouse, a year is a reasonable life for a mouse.

Logitech MX510 is a good one for about $30.

Yeah, that is most likely what I'll buy, but I'm trying to get some last minute advice before I walk out the door and waste money on something I don't need

Also I noticed that if I unplug my mouse, shut down, reconnect it, and restart, it works for about 10-20 mins before it starts ****ing up again

Try cleaning the bottom of it and optical sensor. Might be full of crap.

Try cleaning the PS2/usb connection or switch to whichever you aren't using and see if it's any better.

I cleaned my mouse and the port, seems to be working fine so far, I still might pick up a new mouse tho

And I like the MX510 better than the mx518 (I have them both). But that's personal preference (with me it has to do with mouseaccelleration).

When this started to happen, did you install anything? Like drivers for something?
I had this problem (I have the same mouse) when I tried to install some drivers for some cheap sound card, and whenever I installed them or booted up windows my mouse would die.

If you did install something, try unistalling whatever it was, might fix the problem. But then theres the problem that whatever you installed wont work properly :P

I could do with a new mouse. I like the look of those Logitech mice...

Well, if you feel like spending a C-note, the G7 just came out...
Otherwise, I have an MX-510, had it for nearly a year, and I loooove it. It's absolutely perfect for gaming, and super comfy.

How are they different? I just got the MX518 but I thought the two were almost the same.

G5 > G7 because cordless mice are pointless

and the G5's on the fly sensitivity controls are great for sniping and the adjustable weights make it just meaty enough to contol smoothly

G5 is what I've decided to get when I do end up finding a way through the snow

a good decision :D

I love Logitech mice, but the G5 and G7 I don't like simply because of only having one thumb button. I got used to having two thumb button ever since I got the MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 a long ass time ago. I just couldn't live without two thumb buttons...

MX518 =Razer > G5/G7

I've had my MX500 for at least 2 years now, and it's performed excellently. My friend got the G5 a week or two ago, and I agree with Anthraxxx, I like having two thumb buttons. But the nice thing about all of these logitech mice is the comfortable non-ambidextrous design. I now hate the feeling of those types of mice.
