Computer upgrades...

I want pick up HL2, but I'm gonna need some upgrades first. I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable when it comes to computers, but this is my first time shopping for things like this and I don't know what the difference is between the various models. Here are my current specs.

Dell Dimension 2400

Intel Celeron 2.40 GHz processor

640 MB of DDR-SDRAM

Integrated PCI graphics card (Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller)

I need to upgrade my graphics card, but my computer doesn't have an AGP slot so I'll need to upgrade my motherboard first. I have no idea of what to look for and how to know if it will be compatible with my system. I would also like some suggestions for graphics cards. I want something innexpensive, but I don't want to have to run HL2 on the lowest graphical settings.

i would recommend a new case also unless u want to be stuck with the mATX mobo thats small. get a mobo with socket 478 and make sure it supports the same ram then for the gfx card a 9600xt

Personally, your best bet is to scrap the whole thing (except maybe the ram, you can keep that) and get a whole new system.

But, assumimg you cant offord that - get a new video card, the choice is yours.

Ya I'm sorry to say but a whole new rig would probably be cheaper than upgrading seeing as you have a slow processor and graphics card. Look for an athlon 64 3200 and a geforce 6600GT and you will be happy. Along with 1 GB of memory and a sweet motherboard and maybe an audigy 2ZS of course! I can provide way more specific details or maybe some suggestions for your budget if you tell me what you have to spend.
