Warrant shows feds were hunting down software

By INQUIRER staff: Monday 19 January 2004, 15:32

THERE'S A STORY on a web site that appears to be connected to investigations the FBI is making into the theft of Half Life 2 code.According to this web site, Chris Toshok's home was raided by the FBI last week with a warrant to search his house and computers.
Toshok also said in account on his blog that the Secret Service was involved in the raid.
But after taking a heap of computer kit and other material, and taking photographs of the house, the agents gave Toshok a receipt for the goods they had taken.
A search warrant they gave Toshok said it was issued in relation to Valve Software, Half Life 2, Counter Strike and other games and related materials. The feds were also searching for emails related to Valve, to Half Life 2, or to IP addresses connected to the game code.
He is a member of a coders' group called Hungry Programmers, and says that other members were also raided on the 14th of January.
The warrant, the web site and the receipt for the material seized can be found here. The account reads like it could be part of a Half Life 2 episode itself, if this is what really happened

Yeah they had a thread about this on the general forum. Of course, most interesting is page 4 of the search warrant.

Sorry ive been gone and i searched didnt find it. :(

That's OK. Here in OT we are not usually informed about HL2-related matters.

I hope somebody will be kind enough to notify us when HL2 gets released. :)

If this guy even d/led the HL2 source i say: Good he deserves it. If not: I kinda almost feel sorry for him, not really though.

interesting it seems the police have nothing better to do apart from dunking doughnuts

not police, your ignorant, it IS a big deal with lots of money involved especially for a game like half-life 2 the theft/publicizeing of its souce code is a major crime (do I need to explain why) or do you know nothing of the law...

how do we know if the FBI was coming for to see if he was the person who stole halflife2???? it dosent say in his blog???

Can I say they got owned, or is that too offensive for everybody?

Did you look at the warrant scans? Page 4, to be exact.
