If you're not a football fan, look away now.

As a lifelong Arsenal fan I found myself tonight cheering on Liverpool at the top of my voice. The moment Gerrard dragged his team back into the game with a true Captains performance I felt a lump in my throat, it was there for the second and third goals too.

What a performance by Liverpool. The manager, the players the fans were all great, and they have made the country proud. That was one of the, of not the greatest game I have ever seen.

So congratulations to Liverpool - the country needed this and you did us proud.

:)

I invite all football fans: English and Liverpool to congratulate a great performance by an English team.

Oh man football? I hate football! Punting the ball over the goal and tackling everyone with that stupid shaped ball. SOCCER IS SO MUCH COOLER!

IM KIDDING. Yes, I know football is soccer. It was a horrible attempt at humor. My apologies.

Anyway, who did they play and beat?

It was the champions league final, and they were losing 3-0, brought it back to 3-3, and won on penalties against AC Milan who are much better than them, and defenders of the title, its quite amazing. Although KoreBolter started a thread on it already here

Yeah that was a horrible attempt.

Liverpool, at half time down by 3 goals (one scored in the first minute :D)... they got 3 goals back in 15 minutes and stuck it out for a further 50 minutes 'til penalties... which they saved 3 of and scored 4 of their own. It was amazing. Im not a liverpool fan but Gerrard was great.. what a superb captain. :)

yes i saw that thread - but this is a chance for english fans and livepool fans to salute liverpool FC.

They were very lucky.
edit: Well its true. And the champions league has become a bit of a joke tbh. A team thats fifth best in its country should not even be in the competition.

kaka pwned the 1st half, amazing player, better than gerrard imo, gerrards overrated, i prefer alonso.

can we keep this on topic please - general discussion of the game can be kept in the other thread.

so whats this for? we all say ''well done liverpool'', thats it, we dont need 2 threads.

yes - this is a thread for english fans and liverpool fans to salute the team for bringing the european cup home to this great country :D

were you even watching the same final as the rest of us? that was one of the best finals in the champions league history. two of the biggest european clubs with huge traditions going at it. unless you preferred the milan - juventus final of 2 years ago? lol. last word on it, cos you were obiously not watching the same final as everyone else.

lol youve gotta be joking. Liverpool have been far from one of the biggest european clubs for YEARS. Milan made pool look like a ****ing pub side for the entire first half. It was easily more one sided than united vs arsenal in the fa cup final. Milan were just oozing quality. If it wasnt for shevchenkos below par performance, having a perfectly good goal disallowed, gerrard going down easily and getting a penalty, dudeks miracle saves, serginhos shite first kftpm etc etc you were well beaten. In reality you scraped though and i really think milan deserved to win it.
Also, i never said it wasnt exciting. The first half wasnt, but after liverpool started scoring it got good.

oh man i really didnt want this to turn into a flame thread? are you a bitter chelsea fan or something?

Liverpool have history - a tradition. Thats what made it special. First half was very one sided yes, but Liverpool, to pick themselves up after that, and come back at Milan big time in the second half showed amazing guts and commitment. God knows what Benitez said to them at half time but it certainly worked :)

If it wasnt for Liverpool turning up, Milan wouldve won, and how you can say Dudek having a great game was 'lucky' just goes to show how little you know about football - your argument is moot - football is football, and when it doesnt follow the script, its the best game in the world :)

Ps Basically what youre doing is reeling off al ist of excuses.

Football's coming home, its coming home, its coming home ITS COMING!

Im not really flaming.
are you a bitter chelsea fan or something?
Those russian mafia, kidnapping, oil/player thieving ****s? Heh, no way.
Liverpool have history - a tradition. Thats what made it special.
A tradition of winning the european cup you mean? Do you think you deserve to win it or have the right to it because youve won it a few times before? Think the cups come back to its rightful home or something?

They had no choice but to go all out attack
If it wasnt for Liverpool turning up, Milan wouldve won,
That along with the wrong refs decisions etc that i already mentioned.
and how you can say Dudek having a great game was 'lucky'
Oh. That double save was deliberate then. The first was, iirc, but youre nuts if you think he had any sort of clue about the second shot. It just happened to hit his hand and go over when it couldve gone in anywhere
just goes to show how little you know about football
:dozey:
- your argument is moot - football is football, and when it doesnt follow the script, its the best game in the world :)
Would you be saying that (now) if you supported milan?
Ps Basically what youre doing is reeling off al ist of excuses.
legitimate reasons.
Football's coming home, its coming home, its coming home ITS COMING!

I just don't understand how you can like a sport that considers a final score of 2-1 an exciting game...just my 2¢..

who do you support then?

and liverpool due to their 2nd half performance deserved to win. i doubt they were lucky in all gthe games they won on their way to the final were they? and not every shot on target deserves a goal you know.

and if youre english fan supporting Milan shame on you. youve probably never even been to Milan.

yes thats right, because the scores arent high the game must be boring.

gotta love american logic. go away this thread isnt for you.

and you obviously didnt read the first sentence of the thread:

If youre not a football fan, look away now.

As a Manchester Unt fan I salute Liverpool’s effort tonight, lucky they might have been but then again as any Arsenal fan will tell you it comes with territory.

Well done Liverpool

PS. only joking about the FA cup ......not :P

Well I saw football and assumed it was the good kind of football...ya know, maybe it was just some kind of lesser known European league..obviously I was horribly...horribly wrong..Anyway, what I meant was that for the entire duration of the game, they just run from one side of the field to the other...Just back and forth...and back and forth...and back and forth...for the entire game. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with you guys liking "football". I'm shure you feel the same way about baseball as I do about "football"...I was just saying that to me, it seems sort of repetitive..But, like I said, it's just my 2¢.

why feel the need to give it in a thread to congratulate the new european champions. nobody who likes football would give .02 cents to hear your views so why spout them on here? make your own thread.

I really feel sorry for people with your attitude, think about what youre saying. Maybe the scoreline isnt why so many people love it so much. Goals are not everything. I dunno anyone who watches football just to see goals. If youd give the game a chance you would realise how much more there is to it.
If you started watching football regularly you would see so many once in a lifetime things happening. For all you know in that 2-1 game the post/crossbar was hit 10 times, amazing saves were made, the teams played some great 1 touch stuff (like milan did at times tonight for example), ronaldinho went past 4 players with some awesome tricks, and curled a powerful long shot towards the top right corner from 35 yards which was tipped barely over the bar with a world class save by the opposition keeper. Just about anything can happen and the displays of skill/creativity/flair/teamwork etc are unmatched in any other sport.
Theres so much to this game and anyone who doesnt watch it is missing out. Even if you cant see top class european football you can dl videos (ill give you links to vids and gifs if you like) or watch the south american leagues which arent bad.
Honestly if you watch any sport purely for the scoreline youre wasting your own time.

no. its just you stereotyping as everyone does. :upstare:

EDIT: and why do americans always think the UK is England or think Wales is in England... :o does.my.head.in.

I'm a Newcastle fan.. I was still shouting my self horse singing:

"3 nil, and you ****ed it up, 3 nil and you ****ed it up"

And

"shevchenko is a wanker la la la la la la la la"

hehehe the world revolves around stereotypes.

and only in Wales could a club chairman get away with inviting all the Top Boys down to the club for drinks ;)

i guess most of the fun of football, bvasgm, comes from the fact that 1 goal means so much. 1 goal can win a game, whereas (and I dont really know here - im no expert) but like, a three pointers in basketball, or a home run in baseball isnt as important...

so for most of the game youre building up the tension waiting for that goal, and when it comes you release all that tension and just go mad :D

You would just say i was biased if i told you :D (i dont support milan). I hate bias and i always try to be unbiased though. I dont hate liverpool. I do hate some of your fans because of the amount of shit i and others have taken from them over the years.
and liverpool due to their 2nd half performance deserved to win.
What if what happened in the first half actually happened in the 2nd, and vice versa? Would milan then derseve to win because of their 2nd half performance? The 2nd half isnt the only one that matters. Too often people base their opinion of a game only/mostly on the 2nd half. Liverpool did give absolutely everything in the 2nd half, im not disputing that. They did unbelieveably well given the circumstances. Maybe they worked harder or had more desire (maybe milan would have had more desire had they been 3-0 down at half time). But they clearly werent the better team and, imo, luck was leaning heavily on their side on the night.
