Congress Passes Budget That Cuts Medicaid

Democrats unanimously opposed the spending outline passed late Thursday. They said the budget reflects the president's misplaced priorities by freezing or trimming health, education and agriculture programs while cutting taxes by as much as $106 billion over five years.

easier to open the way for oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and facilitate GOP efforts to reduce spending increases in Medicaid and other entitlement programs. About $70 billion of the $106 billion in tax cuts would be protected by resolution, meaning it could be approved by a simple majority in the Senate rather than the 60 votes needed to break a filibuster.

i dont support the whole thing, wanted to see what you guys thought.

It is not a cut, it is a reduction in growth.

You even quoted it.

reduce spending increases in Medicaid

So instead of medicaid's budget increasing 12% it is increasing 11% (made up figures). Oh noes!

I don't really care about it either way except for the fact that they want to drill in ANWAR *Slaps forehead*

How many times have you been there?

That doesn't have anything to do with what I mean. I mean that drilling in ANWAR will not help us in the oil category really, it has a lot, but not enough. I could care less for the environment and animals.

Wow, I think this is a new argument for not drilling there. Fair enough, as long as you don't care about the animals :)

Actually, just read the part about ANWAR on that site, its a little too pessimistic in most parts, but on ANWAR it is 100% correct. We cannot drill ourselves out of the problem. We need to conserve, be more efficient and move to new energy sources soon .

EDIT: Okay, Foxtrot, look at it this way, what transports the foods to our stores cheaply and effectively?Oil powered vehicles. What transports the materials, such as natural gas, and nuclear to power plants? Oil powered vehicles. What is most plastic made of? Crude oil.

don't forget that most machinery in our production factories run off oil based engines, all our modern farm machinery that allows farmers to even produce enough food, let alone get it to the store for all of us, runs off oil...

Food, electricity, our whole economy depends on oil. If we don't make a move to another plentiful fuel source, or at least start to soon, who knows what might happen. Its not that oil is just going to run completely out, but when there is so little and it costs 500 dollars to move a tomato 20 miles, your not gonna' be eating much. And don't plan on growing your own, it'll either be to late, or you won't have seeds and supplies readily available.

IF only there were some sort of federal laws to protect such places from drilling and pollution....oh wait, thats right... :|
