Connecting to a Certain Server?

me and my friend have been trying to join a game together and even though my name is added to his friends list, it still lists me as offline for some strange reason (even when i am currently in a game). so i was thinking that if i or he knew the ip address to the game that either of us was playing in, the we could just meet up in that server. but i am kind of lost, how would i go about doing this? i have done it before although i dont remember how. thanks for the help.

Ok well, a good thing to do when the friends list is broken is to either meet up on MSN or get this chat program called Xfire, which is quite useful.

To get the I.P. of a server, just get the server you want to join up, and then right click and select "View Server Info". The I.P. of the server is listed there, and you can highlight it and copy it too.

thanks that helps alot. but once you get the ip address of the server you want to join, is there a way you can like type that into the console and connect to that server or something?

oh, and you can play other people who dont have source but earlier versions of CS right?

Unfortunately you can't play people with earlier versions of the CS game, as that's stupidly imposible

Anyway, once you give your friend the I.P. address, then tell him to click the "Favourites" tab in the Server browser, and click the "add by I.P.", in the right click menu.

Or you can type "connect *the IP-adress*" in the console...
