Im thinking of conneccting my xbox 360 via a VGA cable to my 17" TFT Monitor, reason being so I can see waht HD is like. I was wondering will it look ok on a 17" monitor? I mean will I ger letterboxing or cropped edges since its only 17"

Im hoping to play at 720p

PS. I dont have speakeres in my monitor but i do have an XFI sound card with an optical input, could I connect the xbox to this and use my 5.1 speakers for the PC??

yea you can do everything you listed above. you might just need to change some settings on your 360 though.

For the record the Y-combiner that you need to change the Xbox's RCA sound cables to minijack is included with the VGA I believe.

Yeah, it is. What I speak of is a simple female female minijack connector which is also needed.

Personally I'd like to see how a 360 looks on my 24" monitor. Might need an XBox first, though :/

wouldn't look as good because it would be 16:10(monitor) instead of 16:9(xbox output)

Is there a digital (dvi) adapter or cable available for 360?

I believe the VGA cable thing comes with a VGA to DVI adapter... which is what I use on my video card.

Unless I'm mistaken and that came with my video card? I cannot be sure. D: I think it came with my video card actually. Damn.

the video isnt as good as it would be on a HDTV, but its close

You will need to buy the microsoft vga cable.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874103025

And you'll also need to buy from like radioshack, a double female adapter so you can plug your computer speakers in one end, and the vga cable audio portion(connected via the Y combiner into the other end. Works beautifully.

depends on wether your speakers have an aux jack ..mine does so I didnt need an additional adapter ..looks great on my 22" monitor

the adapter you're talking about comes with your video card ..sometimes they include 2 (sli)

Plus, you don't buy things from RadioShack. You just don't.

You'd get two strips along the top and bottom, but that's it. It's still technically HD as it's 1080p

OK so im now getting a HDTV, so which is better VGA or Componant?

The ones that aren't Yellow White And Red.

That won't give you HD.

Component and VGA are going to look very similar except VGA is pure (RGB) and component is a compressed signal (YPbPr) from RGB. So I'd go with VGA, unless the xbox360 converter or your TV favors component for some reason.

cool, the Toshiba 42Z3030DB supports 1080p via componant but still I think VGA would be better
