So this is my first post here, Hi guys!
Anyway, I am having a problem with the serverlist and connecting to games. When I try to get a serverlist for CS:S or any other mod, I only get a small portion out of the total servers. For example i usuallly can only see 200-400 servers on the serverlist out of 1000 whatever. Also, It takes a few minutes for me to join a server after I hit connect and often times a server will fill up before I can get in =/. Im currently on DSL. I actually just switched from cable because of the cost. I also am behind a switch instead of a router. Any help or a simple I don't know would be appreciated! Thanks.

welcome to the forums mate :E, and what better way to start your first thread than with a problem lol.

check your ports, and make sure firewall is off. it helps with net speed lol. it could just be steam aswell. i get a few slow connections. but hl2 release is on tue so maybe valve are making tests or something...dont know really.

soz if this doesnt help lol :E

Certainly do NOT turn off your firewall. I haven't heard such a stupid suggestion for a looooong time!

What sort of ping do you get in the server list? If it is greater than about 200, then the problem will likely lie with the switch ... check the steampowered pages for the ports you need open (and reconfigure the switch and your firewall to allow them. If you have the windows sp2 firewall you won't need to do this as I'm sure you will have clicked unblock when it asked you about steam.exe/hl2.exe)

I'm not quite sure how to configure the switch to open these ports. I disabled the firewalls on the modem/router thing completly for my computer and I am still having the problem. Except now it only shows 7 servers for tfc, my most played mod =/. I have a netgear FS605 switch and the instruction book doesn't say anything about configuring ports and the like.

it appears I fixed the long wait to get into servers, however it still only updates a small portion of the full server list guess I'm going to have to deal with it. thanks for the help.
