Maybe you guys could help me out. I'm on a 56k dial up modem, and for some reason I can't get the speeds I'm used to. ( I know what you're thinking, how could it get any slower).

I usually connect at around 46.6kbps, but for some reason now, I can't get over 28.8 and its really, really annoying. I've checked my modem, it says everthings working properly, I've checked my network connection, and to my knowledge everything is ok there.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Is there a setting somewhere that you can set the speed of your connection, or maybe something of that sort that could have gotten change?

Thanks in advance! :|

I had that problem before I jumped on the broadband wagon. It turned out my service provider had split my phone line between me and a few other people down my road so my line was being shared which made 56k even worse that it already was.
There could also be a problem with trees and water interfering with your line.
I would ring your isp and ask them to investigate.
Also make sure that you are virus/ spyware free as they can slow your internet right down

Spyware isn't a problem, checked that one (spybot, and adaware, both updated, plus my firewall and my antivirus :) ) Thanks for the tips though, I really appreciate it, probably does have something to do with interference on my line, my dad said he checked it and heard a "buzz" so thats probably whats doing it.

I'll also try and ring up my cheap ass isp, I wouldn't put it past them to cap me. I pay for unlimited but they've shut my account down before because they said I exceeded my usuage, even though i pay for unlimited lol.

You can get DSL for $25 a month, definitely worth it.

Sadly, not where I live I can't. I can't get cable/dsl any of that good stuff, and trust I'd change if I could. 56k drives me nuts :rolling:
