Conroe NDA to end early

Sweet, I'm thinking about moving over to Conroe after seeing some benchmarks. Seems like a good processor.

So could we expect AMD to drop the prices on the X2's early as well?

Unless there is good availability, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

AMD better watch out....conroe is quite the processor....the benchmarks look real good.

I don't think AMD is in any danger just yet. If the enthusiast were not such a small sliver of the pie then I might think differently. (We switch platforms on a dime depending who has the better deal)
AMD has gained a lot of marketshare and OEMs who sell their products (Server and Desktop). OEMs will continue to offer both (AMD/Intel). Companies who invested in a platform will stick with their choice for quite awhile. They won't switch overnight. Now if AMD didn't have an answer early next year then Intel by that time would begin to convert AMD's customers.

Of course customers who walk into a Best Buy or CompUSA still don't know the difference and the majority will probably buy whatever is cheaper.

Yeah. Intel wins this round, AMD the next. It's basically a never ending cycle. :borg:

Since I upgraded I'll skip conroe and go for AMD's next round of CPU's.

Dammit, I want Conroe now! I'm really fed up with my current Intel P4 CPU. And I finally found the perfect new DDR2 to get. And then all I'll need is a DX10 video card. BLAZING SPEED, yo!

Oh, and on-topic, is there any info about motherboards for Conroe?

Not really!
Some are wondering if it will be motherboardless at launch. lol

Damn. Thanks for the info, but that is a bit depressing. :(

AMD got something interesting going on aswell to counter the Conroe release (my guess). They got a technique called reversed HT in all their AM2 processors which basically makes the processor think that it only has one core (instead of 2). So all the single core programs and games should get a really big boost with this.

This should already be in the AM2 processors that are sold now. What needs to be done is to update your bios and install a new CPU driver (a new optimizer can be found at AMDs homepage which will increase the performence).

Sounds nice.

Reverse HT? None atm.
It's supposed to be a secret. :naughty:
