Console command to change screen resolution

Been trying to get Half Life 2 to go into 1280x1024 resolution but it only lets me go to 1024x768 from the menu. I thought it was an issue with the my old GFX card but now I have a 6800 Ultra and still the same issue. Any ideas?

Does your monitor support 1280*1024 (rather stupid question, it probably does)

Screen is a Phillips 18.1 Flat screen and is running 1280x1024 for Windows , but can't hit this mode when running HL2 for some reason.....

That is very strange. Maybe you should reinstall HL2, I don't know if it would help but I also don't know what else would.
