consoles are destroying even the last good feature in games...meet cryengine3

So in the years to come, Crytek (or anyone licensing the engine) can just crank up the settings and increase the texture count, density of objects, etc etc to make it look all next next gen.

SO the problem is...

I care, I for one was drooling all over CE2. No engine I've seen so far can even match the visual quality for any environment like how this engine can, and looking at the direction it is going, I'm disappointed for sure.

As in the whole point is to make it playable for consoles, so the PC versions will not have much improvements over the last engine

A good engine is a good engine when it allows for playable games without having to steal a PC from Nasa.

We're still using that played out hyperbole? Sometimes I wonder if people are even trying to play Crysis anymore. I think the problem is people feel that they're meant to play every game at the highest graphics settings.

Your argument is completely irrelevant nowadays. You can get a graphics card at like 50 over US Dollars that can play Crysis at Max Settings. like say a 9500GT.

Replace "consoles" with "the lack of market for high-end PC games" and I'd say it was pretty spot-on.

Alternatively: OH NO CONSOLIZED GARBAGE, DOOM/GLOOM. ;(;(;(

Why would they? It's not as if Crytek is widely known for making great "games" rather than great "graphic engines". If you buy a crytek game, chances are you bought it for the graphics.

I have never bought a crytek game. Played their demos, betas, and at friend's houses. Best graphics in the world don't make up for crap gameplay imho.

consoles are a heavily controlled gaming enviroment where every last little thing is monetised. It all revolves around licensing fees and collecting fees directly from the consumer for things that were tradionally free in the past (mods, maps, items, online gameplay) etc

gamers are to blame for allowing this to happen. It wasnt that pcs became too expensive (it wasnt a problem in the past when hardware prices were higher than they are today) it's that pc as a gaming platform has to many holes where money leaks when they could just create a closed system were they are in control of every aspect instead of the user.

bottom line gamers for the most part are spineless consumers who fawn over the same old shit wrapped up in the mantle of a shiney new feature except they're willing to pay for something that was tradionally free

consoles are a step backwards in gaming, not forward (only in the sense that we allow microsoft/sony to dictate how we play our games, instead of the other way around as it was in pcs heyday (unreal was much more fun with user created mods etc))

You read my mind and wrote it in wordy things.
