I have been given, on my XFX Gefore 8800GT, a S-Video Input. Supplied with that is a cable that allows Component Cables (Orange, Green and Blue) to be inserted indirectly to the S-Video jack. But, I need help on how to get the video to show up onto my monitor.

Any free software I could download to direct the video? Any plugins for VLC? I have googled a bit, but I still don't know what to search for D:. So I've turned to HL2.net, you haven't failed me before ;)

Oh god, the asians at the store lied to me.

THE S-VIDEO IS OUT, NOT IN!?! ;(

Looks like I'm gonna' have to buy a TV Tuner now.

AFAIK, no modern high end video cards have any sort of video input, only output. You pretty much have to buy a TV tuner to get that sort of functionality.

Why would you want to plug the output from your console into your computer? If you want to use your monitor, just use a converter or something.

It is impossible to convert S-video to DVI or VGA using cables because they use completely different signals. You need to use a TV-tuner or a converter box to get the desired effect.

I look for a VIVO port on any video card I buy for similar reasons. I have a BFG 7800GTX now and run my VCR into it (it uses composite signal). I use a program called myTV and frankly don't remember where I downloaded it from, but the nVidia drivers come with a little app called nvCAP (I think) that works in a pinch. My VIVO cable has S-video and composite inputs so your S-video line should theoretically be able to work as an input with this card. I dont know if any of the 8800 line of cards have VIVO though. VirtualDUB is another program that some people use to view incoming video signals, but it seems more based around recording/editing the signal than just watching it.

ATI cards quite often will have both in and out. But it seems to me that Nvidia does not have nearly as many cards on the market with an input feature.
