I've been having a problem with Half-life 2 and counter-strike source with my new computer. My computer has: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, Nvidia 7300 LE, and 1gb ram. Yet, I've been crashing, like in Half-life 2. In Point Insertion, I crash as soon as I step out of the train. Sometimes it doesn't have an error message and sometimes it says "Failed to load vertex buffer in CMeshDX8:LockVertexBuffer". My drivers are up to date and I have already checked Steam for suggestions. Can anyone help me?

Try running in DX9 instead.

dxlevel 90 I think it is. Put that in your target field of your game.

why is there a sudden surge of these errors? some new bad steam update?

That seemed to have helped somewhat. I was able to actually play for a short time before crashing. Any other ideas?

-dxlevel 80 has helped people with this problem earlier.
