Now I dont know if anyone else has had any trouble with alienware notebook's.. but this just became a consistant one, id like to know if anyone else knows why whenever I start up a game Its fine for a while...

.. then you load a game and sometimes it'll plod along happily for a bit then eventually freeze and reboot,, other times it will conk out straight away and restart.

Its annoying because ive considered over heating.. ive ruled that out because it's fine doing other graphic's related stuff for ages.. like 3Dsmax.

The spec's are

P4 3.6

1.5 gb RAM

with an Nvidia 6800 go that only works with the custom driver's they send with the notebook. (It wont recognise anything else as far as ive tried)

Im suspecting that its something G card related.. im quite annoyed tbh, alienware notebook's dont have the most stable of configuration's, this is supposed to be a gaming laptop and I cant do any gaming in bed now, sigh.

it maybe overheating inside the case. Also try this....right click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,” uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart.

Next time it restarts u shud get a error. Write this error down then post in here what it says.

thanks but no cigar, I tried it and I didnt get any error, it just did the usual thing.. It does it everytime I try to begin a game in HL2, the reboot's are random in other games, mostly seem to be focused around loading screens or when a sudden pressure is put on system performance within the game.

Any hard drive clicking and spinning-down and up noises?

I had similar, and was caused by a failing hard drive.

the hard drive has a think before it reboot's and it does go clink clink in sequence with the activity light when it freezes, its RAID configured would that have any bearing?.. im really not sure, would a hardrive fail only when i start graphic's intensive processes?.
