Winter 2010 release.

Yey :sniper:

WHAT NO SINGLE SHOT DEATH ANYMORE?

Do not want.

Bah to you guys. Arcady games are already dying a death - we should support the ones that do turn up. And why so down, Darky? You don't have to play easy mode.

Not sure if I am digging the art style, but if the gameplay is intact (i.e. as good as the GOOD Contra games of the past), then count me in!!!

Just re-make the Genesis release, "Contra:Hard Corps" with updated 2D/3D graphics like Shattered Soldier and I'll be happy.

It's the principle, Warbie, the principle. When I saw your thread title I instantly thought, "This generation's gamers could never beat Hard Corps," and I had this sickly feeling that the game'd be dumbed down somehow. I just knew it.

I just hate that games are pandering to casuals now. Yes, you don't HAVE to play rising mode, but the inclusion of a mode that makes Contra, and arguably the hardest Contra game at that, easier to play, is an affront to the legacy of the side scrolling shooter.

Back in the day, nobody even considered making Contra easier. When we were all kids Contra was hard as hell, so what'd Konami do? They made the sequels harder! And they kept making them harder. It motivated you to become better so that you'd be able to beat the damn games. It took timing, skill, and memorization, and you couldn't get hit once, OR YOU DIE. Now gamers of today are getting leniency. That's not just a slap in the face to the Contra series, that's a disservice to them. They can go through rising mode, beat the game easier, and might never be motivated to play it on the original, "arcade" mode.

I just can't understand why making a difficult game in this day and age is such a taboo. And to sully the name of Contra with this trend is a knife in the heart. Konami must feel it too, which is why they dropped the Contra name from the title.

Screw you guys :p

I'll be excited for this all by myself then!

Damn you, Warbie! How can you stand for this game? You had the SNES, I know you fought in the alien wars! I fought in the real hard corps! This game is an affront to the memory of everyone who died falling off a rotating platform. We should be able to come together and hate this game on a unified front.

Because beggars can't be choosers! I have to hope it'll be great, otherwise what's it all for?

If we stopped begging, we could do the choosing! If we just stood against games like this, maybe they'd bring back a hard Contra. A REAL Contra. We have to believe in that!

(Start making hard games that will sell better than easy ones.)

Demon's Souls was a hard game that sold well.

Did I mention that there's more money to be made from the casual market than from hard corp nerds like some of us (me included) who yearn for the days of the "one-hit" wonder that is...

OLD CONTRA GAMES?!?!

It was casuals who ruined Shadowrun too, and Deus Ex:Invisible War, and Bioshock, the list goes on....but there's nothing we can do.

Times are changing and the video game market has gotten wise. They have learned how to entice a much MUCH larger niche that is, *cough* casuals and there's nothing any of us old farts can do to stop it.

What are we gonna do? Boycott Rebirth? What good will that do because we are the minority now. The point is that Warbie has made a conscious decision to ignore the past and is trying to enjoy the present. For if we sit around and mope about the causal games of the present day, then what's the point in even playing games anymore because they're no longer fun?

...which is why I've been thinking about getting some old consoles off ebay so I can enjoy games from "back in the day". Including Contra III and Contra Hard Corps. :afro:

No shit. Everyone knows this.

Ah, some of the elitism here reminds me of a group of Harvard grad students sitting in a circle jacking off and talking about how awesome Harvard is.

Anyway, last Contra I played was Contra III or as it was called here, Super Probotector: Alien Rebels, in the mid 90s on the SNES, never beat it though.

Man, once again that gameplay footage makes me want to get this game. Contra 4 was hard as SHIT and I think it sold pretty well. AWESOME game. I will likely get this just to show folks that 2D side-scrolling shooters still kick much ass in my book.
