ok this is totally jacking the topic of that other thread, but i just want to have a poll of who uses what: wads, edsf, arrows, numberpad, or other. I'm thinking about changing from being an arrows user to an edsf user, but i just want to see what's most popular.

im seriously sick of the whole arrows are newb controls. i want duel anyone and everyone who says this.

my name will be quotidiansuccess in game, thats my aim screen name. lets go i'm dueling each one of you.

This is a kind of pointless argument. The best control is obviously QOCY

WADS because I'm used to it and use it in every other fps i play!

wasd, because the weapon-keys (1, 2, 3 etc) are easy to reach then

Christ, it doesn't make a difference. I used to use arrow keys but now I use WASD just because I'm lazy and that's the default setup for just about every FPS.

I got pretty big hands and I use WASD. I just got used to it 3 years ago, so I use it in all games now.

I use WADS, but I might have to give some EDSF a shot sometime...

WADS for movement. E for Use, R for Reload, F for fire rate, G for drop weapon, Ctrl and C for crouch, Shiff for walk, Q for any other control that may be handy (usually depends on the game).

Well, before HL1 came out I only played with the arrow keys. But when you have to look up/down all of the time, its pretty much impossible playing any other way.

Although when I play WASD witha regular mouse its pretty shitty, because you have to pick up the whole thing and move it again to turn around fast....Logitech laser trackball all the way!

b=forward
v=backward
c=crouch
x=rightstrafe
z=leftstrafe

Your all weird!

For HL/CS

w- forward
a- strafe left
s- back
d- strafe right
e- use
tab- score menu
left shift- walk
ctrl- crouch
f- flashlight
r- reload
left click- shoot
right click- secondary
mouse wheel/numbers-select weapons
q- quick switch
space- jump

R6: Ravenshield

WASD- movement controls
q- lean left
e- lean right
z- reload
x- crouch/prone
c- stand up
space- use
ctrl- fluid lean
shift- zoom
alt- thermal vision while zoomed
1- primary weapon
2- secondary
3- item but I usually keep a heartbeat sensor on this slot
4- item ie:c-mag, frag grenade, flashbang, heartbeat puck, etc...
5- nightvision
b- fire rate
JKLN- Go codes
mousewheel- creep open doors(as opposed to the space bar which quickly opens doors, i use the mousewheel to slowly open doors just wide enough without anyone noticing and quickly throw in a flashbang)

I don't think I could play any FPS with the arrow keys. There's arent enough buttons that are readily available using the arrow keys, but hey, to each his own...

Exactly

Only difference is for HL1 anyways.. F is flashlight for me. If no flashlight, then that's the exact control scheme I use. I don't like arrow keys because I feel that I have less keys at my disposal. I can only hit 2 other keys easily while still keeping my movement going.

I remember the old days of Quake1 where I'd go arrows, L control to shoot, space to jump, A & Z to look up and down...jeez...what was I thinking...

I thought I was the only person who used esdf , I like it because I have 1 extra keys over the wasd people.. I , "A"

A - Left Strafe
S - Forward
D - Backward
F - Right Strafe

C - Crouch
Space - Jump
Alt - Prone
Q - Last Weapon
E - Use

Mouse1 - Fire
Mouse2 - Reload
Mouse3- Alternative Fire

Q=Lean left
E=Lean righ
W,A,S,D=Move around and shit
Left shift=Crouch
F=Use
Space=Jump
V=Prone

I've only met one other person who uses the same controls as me.

EDIT: I've used them since Doom 1.

Tredoslop your signature makes no sense maybe you forgot a word or misspelled something.

Forward: up
Back: down
Strafe left: left
Strafe left: right
Crouch: Num0
Jump: middle mouse
Weapon forward: mouse wheel up
Weapon back: MW down
Fire: LMB
Secondary fire (or whatever): RMB
Reload: Num1
Lean left: Delete
Lean right: Page Down
Use: enter
Walk: RIGHT shift.

Anything else, gets set up as we go. Behold, my superiority, learn it, love it, adopt it! :borg:

ESDF is totally superior to WASD since you can use more keys on the left.

ASDF has more keys right next to the movement keys then WASD and ESDF.

man some of taht stuff is crazy
wasd is the besteset geezze but w/e you use thats cool with me :cheers:

Amen to that!

It's like the change from keyboard to mouse.

ps. WASD, not through choice but lazyness

Forward : Num 8
Back : Num 2
Left : Num 7
Turn Left : Num 4 (For when you want to take your hand off mouse for a second after an intense fight)

Lean Left : Num 1
Right : Num 9
Turn Right : Num 6 (See turn left note)
Lean Right : Num 3

Jump : End
Crouch : Pg Down
HLGUI : Del

Voice comm : Num Enter

Attack : Mouse1
Alt Attack : Mouse2
Reload : Mouse3
Weap Select : Mouse wheel
Use : Mouse 4
Flashlight : Mouse 5

Other keys on numpad/nearby as needed by game/mod

space has been my duck key

wheel down on the mouse has been jump

wheel up for reload

I love it because for duck jump moves it feels smoother. Also it puts more controls in the other hand giving my left hand less to do and lets me keep all fingers on the controls most of the time.

I had problems with some games that dont let wheel down be jump tho (CoD is one of them).

wasd here also for movement

Left arrow: Strafe Left
Right arrow: Strafe Right
Up arrow: Forward
Down arrow: Backward
Mouse1: Fire
Mouse2: Alternate Fire
MouseWheel: Change Weapons
Right Ctrl: Jump
Right Shift: Crouch
Enter: Use
Space: Reload

I dunno sounds ****ed and too spread out but its what Ive used since the early days, and I cant be assed to switch to a more "|337" setup.

ASDF!

Duke Nukem baybay!!! All the way =D

Thats when I got used to my setup and I still use that.

CS settings and what I try to aspire to in other games :borg: :

A: jump
Z: Duck
S: sidestep left
D: sidestep right
F: open/scientists follow
SPACE: sec fire
Mouse1: Fire
Mouse2: Forward
Mouse3(middle): back
SHIFT: Run/walk
R: reload
T: talk
Y: say_team
TAB: scores

exactly

for cs, i use esdf +

w = pull out knife
r = pistol
v = main weapon

a = jump
space = use
z = walk
shift = crouch

bla bla

with this setup, your pinky finger can press q, a, z, and left shift all while your fingers are still on your movement keys.

lots of people have wierd controls
2 people in my clan have INSANE controls

1 guy: uses right mouse for move forward...alt = fire

2nd guy: uses WASD but A is strafe right and D is strafe left

lol dont every get on a machine these guys were using and forget to exec your config. you'll shit your pants

I use Arrows for movment.

CTRL for jumping
right shift for crouching
Weelup+down for weapons switching

:cheese:

Im always ownin' with teh wasd.

none of that arrow shit for me.

I love it because weapon numbers are easier to use and ctrl is easier to hit and spacebar too.

I got used to wasd long time ago, so i stick to it.. im too lazy to try other combinations...

you can re-bind the weapon numbers to whatever you want and still use the number keys for buying.
