Is it possible to convert a half life .bsp map to import into 3ds max, preserving textures, geometry, etc?

yes, u have to export the map as, I think its a as3 or something. Then import it into max. As for textures etc... i dunno if they will go with it.

Export with the .dxf format within Hammer and import with 3dsMax. Unfortunatly the textures won't be set correctly (well you should not have any textures at all). And you may have to rescale the whole thing. You cannot import the modified max version into Hammer though.

Unfortunately the exported dxf is just the brushes, not the compiled mesh. That is, the dxf model is made up of ugly boxes, taking up a large amount of unnecessary polygons. Is there a way to extract mesh data from a compiled bsp?

I'm afraid that is not possible... When I want to do this I delete the unwanted brushes from the .map file ( like the sky etc... ) and then export it. If you find something, msg me.
