Converting vs. copy&paste

Many people complain about the steam "converter" that could convert the old mods..

You can also just copy the mod folder from your old half-life folder and into you steamappz\username\half-life\ folder.

Now you will be able to play the mod, but others that loggon your steam client will not..

When you convert a old mod to steam with the converter, you are not just copying the mod from a to b, like you could to manually..
The steam converter is converting from your mod dir to a .gcf file in your steamappz folder...

This prosess is made cause when other people are loggin on your steam client, they will be able to play the games you converted earlier..

aren't youi having problems running mods: i had uplink (HL demo) from HL goty, and it converted, so it resides under 3rd party games, but it won't start - any comments?

hl.exe crashes when i try to run sven coop.. but hlrally beta and underworld is working when i copyied them manually..
