What a moron. A simple "can you guys do me a favor, don't skateboard on this property" would of done it. Stop wasting the departments time by baiting teenage boys into an argument.

I skate too and based on the encounters I've had with cops, that kid should have been apologetic. Being rebellious was not really helping his cause, especially while the cop was on a power trip.
 
My kid needs a new skateboard. I don't want to pay, so I think I'll confiscate one from some other kid.

Oh and that officer is a moron. You don't have to call them officer or sir. You can say 'man' or 'dude' all you want, it's a way people talk.
 
Ive been wondering recently about situations like these. Can you just walk away? If hes going off on some sort of trip like this, do you have to stand there and listen? Is it against the law to just walk away from a police officer if he isnt putting you under arrest?

I agree the cop was a total dick and handled that really unprofessionally, but I've actually had a cop throw me into a squad car because i yawned when he was yelling at us for skating a spot. It doesn't take much and usually it's good to just let them talk and make themselves feel superior and then they tell you to leave. Besides if you talk to some people like that THEY WILL KILL YOU.
 
To answer your question Krynn, my friend tried to just walk away while a cop was lecturing us and the cop tackled him.
 
Thats the kind of reaction I would expect from a douchebag cop, but still doesnt answer the "legality" of it :)
 
I wouldn't walk away from a cop. I have utmost respect for the police, but if some douche bag like this is harassing me for no good reason, I'd just sit it out... let him say what he has to say...

Won't bother me a ****ing a bit. I would display my disinterest and boredom though. Nothing wrong with that.


The thing is... every single cop out there will tell you to stop and comply if you walk away from him. At that point, it becomes resisting arrest if you continue to walk away which sucks ass.
 
Except the fact that it will make him mad. He will probably take longer or do something then.

Its not resisting arrest if he wasnt arresting you. Just ask "Are you putting me under arrest?" and he will say no (assuming he doesnt intend to), so then I dont see why you need to wait for him vent on you.
