Cormac McCarthy's the Road Trailer

Oh boy, I do not like the looks of that.

Well, the child actor is going to make this movie harder to watch.

The trailer contained alot of events that seemed very true to the book - the truck on the bridge, the skulls, the flare gun/arrow scene, the truckers, etc - but I can't say much for the presentation of the trailer itself. Far too much fast paced quick scene change flashy hoohars a' happenin', but I'm still really excited about this. I just finished the book last week and have since been scouring the internet for more news on the film.

Good to see a glimpse of Michael K. Williams (Omar, from The Wire) in there at the end of as The Theif.

Yeah, the trailer's style is a little at odds with the material, but the actual film they're presenting looks promising. Of course, it's still going to be depressing and bleak as hell.

Agreed with Antipop and Direwolf. According to some reviews I've read from people who watched pre-screenings over the past year or so, the film was very well done and some people who saw it were crying at the end. Hopefully nothing got chopped out too badly over the extra year that it's taken to get the film out (argh).

That trailer however was pretty crappy. Also, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis did the score, which will (hopefully) be absolutely nothing like whatever generic action film crap they used in the trailer. There was like a ten second clip of it that sounded decent...

Yeah i hear the Weinsteins made the trailer like that in order to reel more gullible film-goers into seeing an action packed apocalypse film.

Which the film is not, at all.

Heard the book was wonderful, the trailer doesn't interest me a whole lot.

Lets just hope that is the extent of their tinkering.

From what i've heard, apparently thats all they've done, so that's good. I'm glad they haven't gone all "Fanboys" on it. That would majorly suck.

wasn't this movie delayed for a year or so? i remember waiting for it last fall.

It was supposed to come out in November 2008, I think. Then it disappeared for a long time. They only got around to announcing the new release date about a month ago. Their website has looked the same since it was first put up, and it still provides absolutely no useful information. They've been selling books with Viggo Mortensen on the cover, saying "Now a major motion picture" for months. And now they gave us this awful trailer.

Bastards. :P

Great to hear.

Don't let it change your opinion. The book is very much worth a read.

Bump. Missed the trailer, that's what I get for not visiting the Films forum anymore.

But agreed to what everyone has said about the trailer misrepresenting the story. Hopefully the film will stick rigidly to the book's spirit, as the Coen's NCFOM did.

Although the extra screen-time for the 'wife' character is something I hope won't mar the film

As far as I can tell the main change to the plot is the addition of a bunch of flashbacks with the wife and everything, but from what I hear besides that they're sticking to the original plot and atmosphere as much as possible. The book is amazing, by far my favorite of McCarthy's novels, and I have my fingers crossed this movie will do it justice. I agree with those of you saying the trailer is mediocre and misrepresents the film, but presumably that was intentional to sway the simpletons to come see it too.

Never read the book, but the film looks interesting. Good cast too - nice to see old Bob Duvall is still alive and kicking.
Finally in a shit year so far for games / films, some quality entertainment to look out for.

Cheesy trailer.
The 'intense' music doesn't fit with any of the scenes at all.

Cheesy trailer aside, this is one I'm definitely going to the Cinema to see.

Watched the trailer with the sound off and it was much improved :)
