I'm trying to back-up HL2 and CS:S to a DVD, but the GCFs all won't fit on a DVD. So I figured I'd try to RAR them all up, but the problem is, when I try to extract the GCFs out of the RAR, it says some of them are corrupt. First I tried just making one big RAR, then I tried splitting the RAR into 64mb pieces, and still the same result. Does anyone know why this could be happening? And how i would fix it? :(

Yeah, I did, but I found out it's being caused by faulty RAM. I ran memtest86 and it would 9,000 something errors, now I just have to figure out which stick it is.

ouch
That's a funny way of discovering bad memory.

Hopefully your memory didnt go bad while making the RARs, else their probably not recoverable.

Why not use the built in backup option in steam. It will put anything you want into 750mb or 4.5 gig files (cd rom or dvd)

I've heard bad stories of the backup feature not working properly, so I decided just to copy the GCFs. :p

And I knew something was screwed up for the last few days, I even formatted my hard drive and re-installed XP yesterday because I was getting errors from a variety of programs every few minutes, but it never occured to me until this afternoon that it might be something wrong with my memory. :| If I had just run memtest86 first I could've saved myself the trouble.. meh.
