A while back I was playing CS in a server and I asked when Counter-Strike 2 was coming out. After being laughed at by everyone who said, "There's no CS 2 only CZ." So I though hmmm ok I guess they're right. But I had imagined that all mod makers (or most) would create source engines versions of their original mods. Was this always in the works for CS? Or was it my label of Counter-Strike 2 what brought me so much grief?

CS:S = 1.6/CZ ported to source, nothing new

CS2 = A totally new game

Negative.

CS:S and CS2 are entirely different projects. No one knows if CS2 is being worked on, but VALVe have hinted at/said that CS2 is/will be in the works.

Counter-Strike Source is a modified version of Counter-Strike that runs on Source.

Counter-Strike 2 will be a rebuilt mod built on Source that will have all-new content and gameplay - not a modified version of the original COunter-Strike.

That won't be released for a while yet though, and it will not be free.

But, with the source engine, I imagine it will be a totally different expirience. Same maps and weapons I suppose though.

Well every replay has said something different but lePobz was the longest so it must be true.

Think of it like this.... You can drink a cocktail from a glass, or from a coconut with an umbrella in it. It tastes the same, but the coconut has style. Same juice, better experience.

Counter-Strike 2 however will be a whole new juice.

Haha, very good analogy. Do you know if they'll be any weapon tweaks or better hitboxes and such in CS:S or will it be a simple coversion of 1.6?

I have heard that hit detection is improved.

how do you know? if they only hinted at cs2 being made, did they hint that it would cost money?

Do you want to put money on it?

I can guarantee Counter-Strike 2 will not be free. Why give stuff away when you can charge for it?

Valve aren't stupid. The only instance in which I can see Counter-Strike 2 being free is if it is a giveaway with Half-Life 3.

I'm sure CS2 will cost money, because it's not CS:S and it'll be a completely new game. It might even have singleplayer campaigns or something. It will not be released for a long time, probably.

CS:S is basically a port of CS onto the Source (HL2) engine with a few minor changes (besides new graphics and physics). It will be released with HL2.

The Bear: Why did you listen to and believe random people in a pub anyway? :/

at e3 gabe stated that cs:s was not cs:2.

From what I understand CS:S is the taking apart of all the CS versions taking the good points from each and putting them into the source engine. I believe it was one of the valve guys that said this somewhere on the forum. Best example I can think of off the top of my head is that cliffe said that grenades will act like in CZ, the damage will NOT go thru objects as it does in cs 1.6 now. Therefore a cement wall does protect you from grenades. It is this type of collage that will make up the game. No real changes will be made through just taking bits and pieces from the other versions.

If I am wrong feel free to correct me, I haven't the time to look up the information backing what I have said, but I read it here somewhere.
