Counter strike a mod?

I got a question, Kill me if u must , but is Counter strike a mod that got SOOO popular.. that Valve decided to make some money on it.. and convert it to source.. Or is it a Game made by valve.. Cuz i thought the only games Valve made was the Half life series.. Team fortress classic, Deathmatch classic and riochet.

Valve bought CS from the guy who made it. It used to be a third-party mod, but it's considered a Valve game now.

Minh Le made it, they bought it from him and hired him to Valve.

There were some other people who worked on it and also got hired, but only a few.

Same with DOD, most of the team got hired to Valve after Valve bought the game.

As far as I know, only cliffe was hired. The rest of the people who worked on CS were level designers who received some monetary compensation for their efforts.
