The weekly Friday CS:GO update has arrived with a huge host of updates and fixes. The biggest of which is the addition of the CS:GO SDK for the map making to begin.
With this release, the community will be able to start working on new CS:GO maps. We look forward to new maps, old classics updated, competitive versions of maps, and even more surf maps!
The beta is currently very limited as we work through the bugs. We will make more keys available as we get more feedback and fixes out there.
Other important changes include the addition of a competitive version of Aztec (SE) with no fog/particles/debris/ropes and thankfully a drop in the bloom levels for the maps added a fortnight ago (new retinas needed please!). CS:GO blog - Week 12.

Great news.

Too bad Half-Life seems to be in a limbo state with all this effort put into CS:GO, Dota 2, Portal 2 and the super seekrit TF2 stuff.

Steam Workshop was also recently confirmed to be a planned feature for CS:GO, although it's not clear whether it will be intended solely for custom maps or whether other mods (server mods, custom weapon models, skins etc) will also be distributed through it.

The SDK hasn't actually been made available yet as far as I can tell but I imagine it's coming in the next few hours.

I'm glad you said that, I've been checking through the tools and beta versions of CSGO looking for the blasted thing.

Funny they said SDK compared to Authoring Tools. So does this mean there's going to be source code as well?

I recall asking Gabe about releasing the source code for the gldsrc engine a while back and he said they wouldn't because it allows people to make cheats and break the game more easily. Considering the Source engine is their current engine, I doubt we'll ever see it this millennium.

With Left4Dead and Portal 2 they've been calling it Authoring Tools because there is no code. Where as Source Source-Development-Kit does have code in it to allow modders to... mod (up to Orange Box). So by saying Source-Development-Kit it makes me wonder how much stuff is going to be in it.

SDK is Software Development Kit. Not Source Development Kit.
