An update has just been released for Counter-Strike Source and the Source Dedicated Server tool:
An update to the Counter-Strike: Source beta has just been released. Steam will update itself automatically when you restart. Here is a list of the changes:[br]COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA CHANGES / ADDITIONS:[br][*]Stopped long console commands causing the server to exit
You can read the original news post by Alfred Reynolds here.[br]

Additionally, the planned downtime of Steam we reported earlier this evening has been postponed.

Sweet, though it doesn't seem to be that much of an update, hehe.

That update is disturbingly small.

It was a quick fix for the crash server exploit though.

"[...]able to crash Dedicated Servers by simply flooding the console."

I believe this is what the update was for.

Could be there's really nothing left to update. If the rumors are true then the beta will be wrapping up within the next week and Vivendi will have the release candidate in their hot little hands.

Mountain Man, If theres seriously nothing left to update then Im genuinely worried. Would you honestly be happy if the CS: Source we got with HL2 still played like it plays now? I hope not.

Aye, I understand that it's an important update but you would've thought that they'd have fixed the shiny gloves at least. And the problems with the display settings.

You'd probably look at this one as being more of a critical update though. If people were using that exploit to deliberately crash the servers, it's hardly going to be very fun.

I anticipate there being a bigger update tomorrow.

Anyone else notice the Source engine build changed from 2124 to 2130?

This is more than just a simple fix. There's probably more to it than just the one thing.

Well, we'll see. I just hope I haven't waited a week for such a small update.

I've noticed a problem I have which only started after the update on the 31st. When I start off playing my FPS count is usually 30-50 FPS, but after playing a few rounds it drops to 10 - 20. Sometimes going as low as 5. I was just really hoping that'll be fixed (Because I don't want it to occur in Half-Life 2).

Hey awsome keep patching 1 map that a few people are playing.

How bout releasing the god dam game now and patching it.

After all of this, I'm willing to overlook the bugs they have now in CS:S so I can get the damn game already. Seriously. The next couple updates will hopefully be the last ones, then they get their RC out to Vivendi.

I think everyones desire for the game now completely outweighs our concern for these insignificant bug fixes.

I'm becoming incredibly pissed off at this deliberate holding back of HL2 so it can be released in November. They'll continue to release these pointless CS:S fixes to stay on track for November.

Hey whats going on i dont understand whats this mean?

There's still work to do. I've been posting 4-5 Bugs since like the last 4 updates. Oddly enough, none of them have been fixed.

1) Someone being able to crash a server is insignificant? I'm sure a lot of people would disagree.

2) Nobody important has said that Half-Life 2 will be released in November, don't get angry at Valve for something that you made up.

Aye, but keep in mind that they probably have thousands of bug reports a day. Some of them along the lines of "This is gay" or "The AK47 is too accurate".

So YOU'RE delaying the release candidate. Direct all anger to FISKER_Q ;)

Somone able to crash a server for a game beta that half of the community cant play and the rest have mostly stopped playing the one map is insignificant.

Your rite there actually. The way things have been he probably should have said Feburary.

Pity they arnt listening to the reports from the rest of the world ie: Noone cares about some stupid beta release the game now!

I think you confusing "Everyone" and "Yourself". Whatever you think about the CS:S beta a lot of people don't agree with you.

Sorry your right a 1 map beta is more important than the full game and mod making tools.

Just like its a much better idea for the dod team to be helping with CS source than making a version of dod to release with hl2.

Like I said in this thread:

"I think VALVe wants to fix the crash bugs first. So when people purchase the game, they will be able to play it right
when they install."

Well thats a good idea, seeing as they dont have an auto-update program linked to the game.

Oh wai....

Oh, that's a smart comment, send an RC that VU probably won't be able start on their machines...

Nice.

Lol. Oddly enough, that is probably very close to reality.

Eh now im just saying crazy stuff.

There will be a tonne of bugs in the game whenever they actually release it anyway, they need to just make a cutoff point where they just release it and keep working on it behind the scenes. At this point i dont think people will even care about a few shadow clipping bugs that will be fixed 2 days after the game is released anyway, just the god dam game and tools so mod makers can get started.

Well, I agree. I don't think they really need to update skins or something else so minor at this point. They need to fix bugs that make the game unplayable for the majority of the community then ship it out.

There are some other none-mentioned fixes. The flashbang bug was fixed where if you were the only player on a server and flashed yourself the screen would not change back. And you cannot drop gernades. But stuff still floats.

The members of this and other HL2 forums are nowhere near everybody. Everybody are the people who will buy the game at their local store, install it and expect it to work with no updates or anything.

thatas a good point.. I know we (the community) are all so eager to get our hands on the game, but stay frosty... it will be here when its done & working how it should. no point in getting ur knickers in a twis about something u can do nothing about. :)

Peace!

And what about the bug with the "... attacked a teammate"

Theres always your name, not the one who really attacks a teammate. Nobody recognizes it, or what?

I reported that bug several times now!

It's funny. This practically turned into another "VALVe Suxorz!" Thread, again. Do you people (The stupid ones) never stop? You are part of a ground breaking game, that will last for years and years to come (Maybe even more). I don't think that it even being one year late is enough to get you all annoyed, because once you get it, you'll be blown away. So, since everyone (That being everyone) knows you will buy this game whether VALVe release it today, tomorrow, November, or one year from now, there's not much point to complaining. VALVe won't release the game for you, or the other 10 people complaining about it, because they want the majority to be happy about it, and not have to waste bandwidth downloading numerous patches just so they can run through the training.

Having said what I needed to say. This is a great update. I know because My friend has CS: Source and he was getting peeved at the amount of Dedicated server crashes that happened thanks to those idiots using the cracked illegal Source ruining the game for everyone. Not long till the game will be major-bug free!

So the november realise date looks more and more likely. ;(

I just test the flashbang bug and it's definately still there (Well, it is if I start a server myself and flash myself).

But it's not if I join a server with no other players. But I didn't test that before.

How about you stop the "release the damn game" complaints already? I gauran-****ing-tee you'd all still be on the forums whining your asses off if they shipped it early and it was buggy.

I think you should all just be happy enough that you got to even have a sample of the Source engine on your machines. I know I am, and I've played CS since B1. Be greatful for all of the enjoyment you've had with the game, and if you're bitter than you need to walk away and take a break.

Those of you who are pretentious enough to make comments about Valve and their products are the worst. Obviously you know nothing about software development or product branding, because you consider hardcore geeks their target audience. When Joe Compaq can play through HL2 it will be ready, not when it takes hours of cvar research and config tweaking to get a playable experience. Suggesting that they push the candidate and fix the bugs later is naive at best, and ignorant at worst. Steam is a very huge commitment, and HL2 is definately going to make or break the platform. You'd be pretty foolish to jump the gun if you had as much to lose.

Wise words. Quoted for emphasis.

Cheers for that, some of us cant read things unless its quoted in slightly grayed italic text.

Keep up the good work.
