Counter-Strike Source problems

Well yesterday I bought Counter-Strike Source (The version with Day of Defeat and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch.) My cd player is screwed, but I didnt really care at all because I thought, "I'll just download it off of Steam!". Since when I got the CS anthology, It just let me download it off of Steam. But then I found out that before you put in the cd-key for this game, you need to install it on te cds. And, I can't do that because my cd player isn't working.

Now what I really want to ask, is there a work-around? Like if someone else has the same game would it be possible for them to verify it with their cds on there computer, and then Steam would let me download it? Thanks for any help =D

BTW, this is the 40$ version that doesn't have Half-life 2 but has Day of Defeat, Counter-strike Source, and Half-life 2 Deathmatch. THANKS AGAIN!

(If you would like to contact me, my xfire is XxCorpsemakerxX, my AIM is Sneakysob3 and my email address is [email protected].)

If you have a network cable then yeah you should be able to just install it on your friend's computer, and move all the GCF's that are installed over to your steam install. It should work shouldn't it?

Either that or just choose the install path of the CD's as your computer's steam install, not your friends if that's possible.

Whasnt there a "register a product I alredy have option"?
I remember there was one.

Oh right, yeah technically you should be able to just register it like that.

I totally forgot about that. Who knows if it'll let you DL it though.

EDIT: On the main window, it's the "Activate a product on steam" thing that you click. In the "Store" tab. That should let you just put the CD key in and download.

QFT. That's what I did with my Half-life, since the cd was in Italian :hmph:

I tried registering the product on steam, but like I said, Steam makes it so that you have to install the game before you validate it.

So if anyone has this game (Counter-strike Source, Day of Defeat and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch.) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IM me on AIM (Sneakysob3), PM me, or email me ([email protected]). I really will make it your while. I think I have a stratagy to get this to work if any nice guy out there is willing to help (and has the same game). Thx again!
