Hello all, firstly, I'm planning an upgrade to the following:

BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-010-BG) £235

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7800__Series.html

Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-087-AS) £111

-- OR --

Asus A8N-SLi nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-101-AS)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ASUS_Socket_939.html

Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-001-SS)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Seasonic.html

Now my first question is will I notice much difference between a 7800gtx and a 7800gt. Now I play games like F.E.A.R, HL2, UT2k4, CS:S and all of these are playable with my current card, so I'm thinking that the performance upgrade between my 9800pro and a 7800gt will be pretty big so I'm not going to be disapointed with it. Also the 7800gtx is alot more expensive compared with the 7800gt so I was really wondering if it is worth it paying the extra for the card which only seems to be slightly faster.

Right secondly, what is the main differences between the 2 motherboards I posted above, I mean one is more expensive than the other, but I was wondering if there were any performance hits with the board with the lower price because if there isn't and it has all teh features I require, then I will get that one.

Lastly, anyone have any issues with the psu I posted. It just recently recieved a good review in a pc magazine I get, so it sounds to me to be a good psu, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had issues with it.

Thanks for your comments in advance! Much appreciated!

You should be just fine with a 7800GT, the price difference is indeed quite large to a GTX, and unless you happen to have the spare cash lying around, which can't be used for anything better (drink, women, etc..).

As far as i can tell on the motherboard front, the only difference between the two is that the deluxe has dual gigabit lan and the other doesn't, i assume it has just one gigabit lan port. I can't imagine there being any performance difference, as they are using the same chipset and are from the same manufacturer, and the same series of motherboards.

And that PSU should be just fine, very good make, reliable, plenty of power.

Thanks for the reply, I think that a 7800gt will be fine. As for the motherboards, i'll check out the spec sheets for them to find out the real differences in the 2. Think the psu will be fine, got a good review in customPC and they really tested them throughly.

Theres not much difference from a GTX and a GT... like 5fps difference, not really that noticeable, if at all.

The motherboards are awesome, either will do.

I'd recommend the Hiper Type-R PSU... bit more power incase you need it in the future.

Hmm I would go for more power but 600W's seems alot.. Not sure If I will need that much, and If I really need to then I could always just buy another one.

Thanks for your answers though Ren.182, pretty certain about the mobo and gfx card because it seems like a really good price for it. Will look into teh powersupplys though

Well the Hiper-R is cheaper than the one you suggested and 80Watts more powerful.
The one you suggested is more than enough and its a good power supply, but so is the Hiper-R ;) :p

Good choice on the Mobo and GFX, they'll rock your boxx0rs.

Gonna order them soon! Was just playing F.E.A.R on my pc (see sig) and it plays ok, but I have to turn down alot of the settings, hopefully make it look alittle nicer with teh new card!

Just out of interest, do you have the deluxe or non-deluxe version of the Asus A8n-SLi Ren?

Update, ordered the stuff, should arrive on thursday! Cant wait!!!

I have the non-deluxe version. But there isn't really that much different between the two i believe, just more SATA ports an extra Gigabit lan port. Oh and a different chipset fan, this tiny little thing that spins at like 9,000RPM (on the deluxe version)

And thursday will be a good day for you my friend! :)

Thought the Deluxe only adds the super-duper more channels surround sound or sommin fancy.
Maybe also the FastTrack RAID controller in addition to the standard Southbridge, therefore additional S-ATA ports.

Nope, both have 8-channel sound. And i think both can take SATA 2 too... not sure on that one though.

Doesn't really matter about the onboard sound or raid as I will only be using 1 sata port and 1 ide port and I have an audigy 2 zs. Don't use the onboard lan either, well if i do, 1 will be enough. THanks for the input though!

Get the seasonic psu, quality over price my friend, and the seasonic eclipses pretty much all

Yeh I heard that Seasonic only make PSU's so they make them from scratch which allows them to have full control over everything making them very effecient and also they seem to be really well priced for what you get.

Can't wait for thursday now!
