I'm going to be tinkering with my CPU and RAM, and I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with benchmarking programs for this purpose. Currently I'm running my RAM at a 1:1 FSB ratio with the CPU, but since my CPU cannot go much higher than 3.0GHz, my RAM is only running at 667MHz, yet it's rated for 800MHz. I want to figure out how running at a 3:2 ratio will effect my performance.

Super Pi is a very common benchmark program for both CPU and RAM. Anandtech uses it in their memory reviews.
Of course if you want to see how it will truly affect you then run a benchmark in your favorite game or whatever application you use. Although that usually doesn't show as much of a difference compared to benchmarking just the RAM.

I'm not just looking for game performance, but PC performance as a whole. I think I'm going to give PCmark a try though.

Do you want to isolate the RAM and then CPU performance (Super Pi) or do you want to take everything into account (a game with some what demanding A.I. run at low resolution to take the GPU out of the picture).

CPU and RAM in tandem, considering that going from 1:1 to 3:2 FSB ratio will effect both of them.

a list of tests that PCmark runs
Most of those are individual tests and not cpu AND memory intensive.

Compression and decompression is both though (listed under their CPU list). Same thing as running a winrar benchmark.
Although all those 3d benchmarks (under system test suite) are just going to test the GPU. Might as well just run a game where there is actual A.I. and game code running on the CPU/Memory and not just 3d commands to the GPU.
The memory test suite is pure memory tests.

If you could tell PCmark just to run a few of those and not dilute the score, that would be good. Like the multitasking, compression, decryption stuff and video encoding stuff.

Awesome, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll go with PCmark then. Thanks for finding that page.
