After bringing my computer from home to Uni, its started playing up.

Every other time I boot it up, it says something about the Cmos being reset, and CPU frequency being reset or something and its gone into safe mode...and i can F1 to continue or Delete to enter setup.

Since this i've noticed incedibly long boot times, around 30 + of the blue bar spinning around on the windows logo screen, while programs and once im logged in the computer seems fast enough.

I think i need to change some setting within the Bios to do with the processor but im not entirely sure whats gone wrong. I'd also like to stop having to press F1 or entering BIOS and out again to get my pc to boot.

Anyone have any ideas?

What would generally cause the CMOS to be reset is a failing CMOS battery.

When you get into Windows, is the time reset? Or, in the BIOS what does it list the date and time as?

If it keeps forgetting any BIOS settings you put in then you'll need to purchase a BIOS battery.

Also make sure that your CPU multipliers are set to Auto / Default

And buy a new battery, setting the time correctly all the time is a pain :P

yea looks like u dont have a cmos battery installed or its dead somehow

I would say the same. I would expect if the battery had gone and you transported it back to Uni/Home then your Bios would reset.

Do you turn off the comp by the mains as well as windows turn-off? Because I know many motherboards (I don't know if all) still receive power through the mains to keep bios settings in check. The bios battery is there for isurance reasons, such as a power cut were to occur. If this is the case, turn off your computer through windows or your computer, and don't turn it off through the mains (unplugging the computer from the power source)

I turn it off through windows (not the mains). The bios battery isnt reset (unless i reset cmos myself at the back of the pc) and everything is set to default, so i dont think its that. But every so often, more often than not when i boot up, i get the CPU frequency reset Cmos cleared sort of thing going on. I dont know what it is causing it.

It's happened before (when i've transported it to a LAN or back home) but the pc has settled or something and it stopped happening, but it keeps happening here.
