CPU getting hotter and hotter??

Recently my cpu has been getting hotter and hotter. When I first got my Zalman Cu7000 (about September time) i was getting around 30celsius idle (using asus probe) but recently my temps have been increasing and as i type this my temp is 45celsius with a board temp of 43. I know these are still OK temps but i'm perplexed as to why this is happening and what i can do to try bring them down.

P4 3.06ghz
asus P4-533C

Is your CPU usage higher then normal? What is your CPU usage in general? Have you added any new hardware lately, or installed any new software? The software thing should be reflected in the CPU usage hike though. Also what are your case temps? Are you over clocking?

Your case temps might be the problem thus the CPU can't get any cooler then that. If that's the case then it's probably just an airflow thing. Do you have a filter on your intake air? A big hike in temp could occure if an intake filter just hasn't been cleaned in a while, it sorda clogs it up.

Is there a build up of dust inside the case?

These are just some generic questions, things to check out. If all else fails you could just try re-setting the heatsink on the CPU with some siver paste.

What is your room tempurature or near the case anyway. The tempurature coming into the case is the starting point. You cannot increase the cold but only minimize the amount of heat kept around.

When I have my PC upstairs in the summer my room tempurature gets up to 80 deg F. and that doesn't help my temps.
When my PC on the main floor in the winter that keeps the heat to a minimum.

there is hair in the cooler. open up the case, and blow away any hairs stuck in the cooler, do not use a waccuum cleaner.

clean the ribs of the zalman 7000, and temps should go down, quickly. i had the same problem, it showed tha tthe 7000 is easy to clog with hairs, as they stick inbetween the fins that are at an angle to eachother, kinda makes the hairs "stick".

You can buy compressed air, this is GREAT for blowing away air and cleaning electronic parts without damaging anything (like a waccuum cleaner can). Oh and I would suggest to put siver paste on the CPU like RandomPing said after that your on your own (nah just ask again well see what we can do ;o)

Cheers for the help, i cleaned away the dust in the fan and that seems to have helped quite alot. If it hapens again i'll re-paste it.

Also if you put ASIII or ASII on your CPU it is recomended that you replace it every 6 months or so.

oh... hmm.. i have heard of compound/paste but never seen or used it..

guess when i go to build a whole new pc in Nov/Dec i will look into it and see if its worth the investment..
