well when i took my cpu out of the socket some of the cpu pins bent so i bent most of them back. well one of them broke when bending them back;can this really cause a problem????

it will cause a problem...it's not that one of those 100s of them is there just for fun and another will take over it's job.

damn, would you know how bad of a problem it could be?

I will be amazed if it works. If it does expect crashes randomly when it tries to use that pin. You may have to buy another CPU.

You could try to figure out what slot it goes in and stick the broken piece in there and put the CPU on top normally so hopefully it complete the connection.

BTW if anything else breaks/bad stuff happens I am in no way responsible.

EDIT: How the heck did ya bend the pins? You lift the lever and the CPU comes out easily...

k thank you ill try to solder it back on since the pin is on the end of the cpu

I wish you luck but I highly doubt it will work again. A normal soldering iron will be much too bulky to use on a cpu.

I think it will still work without it. I think the CPU sends the signal down another pin. Not sure on that though.
And i wouldnt do the soldering thing...

Chances are the pin wouldn't fit into the slot any more after you solder it. Unless you can do it just right.

I think your stuck with a borked CPU.

Try sticking that one pin into the hole on the socket, then put the processor in too, perhaps it will make contact and still work, eh eh?

Just a quick thought. I also agree with Ren there, I would not try the soldering iron idea.

that could work but i would rather not risk doing that

If you were willing to try this, then you should atleast consider my idea. I'm sure nothing bad will happen and if something does, atleast its nothing compared to what would happen if you soldered it back.

no really i told them the truth and they aer sending it should be here thursday i didnt believe at first. compaq/HP has like this 1 year hardware repair warranty

Don't bend the pins this time ;)

well i found out what i did wrong because when i pulled out the cpu i did not realize the lever that u have to pull up to take it out plus the cpu was stuck to the heatsink. so i will make sure of it that i do it right

When you remove a heatsink it's best to twist it a bit to loosen the pad or greese. Otherwise they are stuck together baked from the heat. Then the CPU shouldn't be stuck to the heatsink and you can get to the lever.
