hi...

why does CS:S begin to lag as soon as i raise the cpu priority?
the game runs way better if i raise the cpu priority but it lags as hell... :(

thx for reply... :)

Am I the only one who sees that as not making any sense, at all?

hmmm...
can someone please try raising the "hl2.exe" cpu priority while he's playing CS:S and tell me if it laged? not lowering, just raising...

I get the same thing I think, not on my home network at the moment so I'm not sure if its jsut something here. But it seemed that when I turned the priority to high for hl2.exe, my choke flew up to like 50 and with it at normal it was near 0-2. I'll post again when I test it at home.

Upping the priority for hl2.exe may well make CS:S run better, but there are still other things running on your computer that need cpu time. Like network services...

How do you up the priority for hl2.exe ? I am confused here :(

You can change the priority from task manager. Right click on the process->Set Priority.
Most general applications though, including games, are designed to run with priority set to Normal. Changing it can have undesired effects, especially if it interacts with other services on the computer.

Thanks alot, k25. Will changing the priority increase FPS, or something around that sort? Because as long as it doesn't give me a 20+ FPS increase, I'm not going to do it .

I doubt you'd get much of an FPS increase, if any. There's still only the same amount of cpu time available, and other processes and services still need some of that time. It will most likely cause more problems than it solves. HL2 will be a little more responsive, but everything else will be a little less responsive (including the svchost.exe ones, one of which handles the network traffic).

Alright, thanks a lot. I'm happy with my computer's performance as it stands anyhow ;)

you gain a lot of fps... but as i said... it causes extreme lagging... :(
