There's quite a lot of talking about the performance of Intel and AMD processors. But if I read somewhere that a game requires 1.2Ghz processor, which company and which type does it concern?

I have a shitty (as I hear and read) Celeron 1.8 Ghz, what is its Pentium equivalent?

It's Pentium equivalent is not any Pentium 4, maybe a Pentium 3. But a 2.4ghz Celeron is actually worse than a $30 AMD Duron 1.4ghz. That's really just pathetic.

You will be able to play with that cpu bro, as long as you meet the other min requirements! ! !

Celerons are drastically slower than their P4 counterparts because they disable most of the L2 cache. That L2 cache is vital to the performance of the P4, so reducing it by a substantial amount reduces the performance greatly. I couldn't find a benchmark of a 1.8 GHz celeron, but I did find benchmarks with a 2.0 GHz celeron. You can get an idea of what performance you will have

As for performance in a game like HL2, I highly suspect that you will have to turn down all of the CPU intensive operations (like the physics accuracy, etc) in order to run HL2 properly.

I wrote before that I have a problem: which to upgrade first:

1)Celeron 1.8Ghz
2)GeForce4MX440
3)256MB RAM

I guess I'll upgrade the processor first then. Damn Intel. :flame:

Get a new computer altogether, your mobo is probably old and you might not have a 8xagp slot. If you build a computer from www.newegg.com you will be able to get a rig for 1200 or so that will run the sweet dx9 games.

I don't think you should upgrade at all. Because you really need a new processor, a new video card and more RAM. I would really start to save up for a new system.

However, your computer should be able to play HL2 just fine and should be able to play Doom 3 as well as long as you upgrade your RAM to 384 MB. In fact, adding another 128 MB of RAM is the best thing you can do right now. And then save the rest of your money for a computer when you can afford one.

When they require a 1.2GHz CPU it can refer to the actual GHz or the general performance of a 1.2GHz CPU.

HEY GUINNY! ! !

I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY FOR 6 YEARS! ! !
It's best not to let yourself behave like that since that shows your 'credentials' more than your certifications. ;)

Right, posts deleted. Back on topic, please.

Asus, I was making a point thats it :)

Upgrading your ram was a good idea, and saving for a new system down the road. Someone else said this (before the flame bs went on) and the post was deleted. If yocan however pop a "newer" P4 on that same board, that would be a decent performance boost also. IMO

I've got a 1,5 year old Intel D845PESV mobo and I'm quite surprised that it already cannot support new graphic cards with AGP x8. Before I got to know this I wanted to buy a Pentium 2,8Ghz for it, but now I think about buying a Gigabyte 7N400E-L mobo + an Athlon XP 2600+ and the price will be the same. What do you think? I'm preety fu**ed up that I bought this Celeron crap instead of an Athlon 1,5 year ago.

That would be a start, although if you went socket 754, If you do not want to run into this again too soon and you really want to upgrade your cpu/mobo now. I would save a little more $$$ and go with a Athlon 64 2800+ or 3000+
